When you recite "The HOLY QUR'AN"; recites it as if your LORD is Talking to you and Describing you about the Truth.

Translation of the HOLY QUR'AN - 88.Surat Al-Ghāshiyah (The Overwhelming) - سورة الغاشية

Surat Al-Ghāshiyah (The Overwhelming) - سورة الغاشية
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
[In the Name of ALLAH, the ENTIRELY MERCIFUL, the ESPECIALLY MERCIFUL]

88:1
هَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ
Pronunciation
Hal ataka hadeethu alghashiyat
Translation
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Has there — [there has] indeed — come to you the tiding of the Enveloper?, the Resurrection, [so called] because it ‘envelops’ creatures with its terrors.
88:2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَاشِعَةٌ
Pronunciation
Wujoohun yawma-ithin khashiAAa
Translation
[Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Some faces on that day — they [faces] are used to represent the individuals in both instances — will be humbled, abject,
88:3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ
Pronunciation
AAamilatun nasiba
Translation
Working [hard] and exhausted.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
toiling, weary, tired and exhausted from the chains and fetters,
88:4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً
Pronunciation
Tasla naran hamiya
Translation
They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
roasting (read taslā or tuslā) in a scorching fire,
88:5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ آنِيَةٍ
Pronunciation
Tusqa min AAaynin aniya
Translation
They will be given drink from a boiling spring.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
made to drink from a boiling spring, one of extremely hot temperatures.
88:6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ
Pronunciation
Laysa lahum taAAamun illamin dareeAA
Translation
For them there will be no food except from a poisonous, thorny plant
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
They will have no food except cactus (darī‘) — a type of thorn plant which no animal grazes on because of its vileness —
88:7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِن جُوعٍ
Pronunciation
La yusminu wala yughnee minjooAA
Translation
Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
neither nourishing, nor availing against hunger.
88:8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ
Pronunciation
Wujoohun yawma-ithin naAAima
Translation
[Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Other faces on that day will be delicate, fair,
88:9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ
Pronunciation
LisaAAyiha radiya
Translation
With their effort [they are] satisfied
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
pleased by their efforts, in the [life of the] world [expended] in obedience, [pleased] in the Hereafter upon seeing the reward thereof;
88:10
فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
Pronunciation
Fee jannatin AAaliya
Translation
In an elevated garden,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
in a lofty Garden, [lofty] in a physical as well as an abstract sense,
88:11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً
Pronunciation
La tasmaAAu feeha laghiya
Translation
Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
in which they will not hear (read lā yusma‘u, ‘will not be heard’, or lā tasma‘u, ‘they will not hear’) any vanity, any inane soul, speaking drivel;
88:12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ
Pronunciation
Feeha AAaynun jariya
Translation
Within it is a flowing spring.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
therein is a running spring, of water, meaning ‘springs’;
88:13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ
Pronunciation
Feeha sururun marfooAAa
Translation
Within it are couches raised high
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
therein are lofty couches, [lofty] in terms of their essence, their size and [physical] location,
88:14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ
Pronunciation
Waakwabun mawdooAAa
Translation
And cups put in place
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and goblets, vessels without handles, set, around the edges of the springs prepared for them to drink with,
88:15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ
Pronunciation
Wanamariqu masfoofa
Translation
And cushions lined up
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and cushions arrayed, one next to the other, against which they may lean,
88:16
وَزَرَابِيُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ
Pronunciation
Wazarabiyyu mabthootha
Translation
And carpets spread around.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and carpets, rugs of velvet-hair, spread out.
88:17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ
Pronunciation
Afala yanthuroona ilaal-ibili kayfa khuliqat
Translation
Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Will they, the Meccan disbelievers, not consider, by way of reflection, the camels, how they are created?
88:18
وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ
Pronunciation
Wa-ila assama-i kayfarufiAAat
Translation
And at the sky - how it is raised?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
And the heaven, how it was raised?
88:19
وَإِلَى الْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ
Pronunciation
Wa-ila aljibali kayfa nusibat
Translation
And at the mountains - how they are erected?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
And the mountains, how they were set?
88:20
وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
Pronunciation
Wa-ila al-ardi kayfa sutihat
Translation
And at the earth - how it is spread out?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
And the earth, how it was laid out flat?, and thus infer from this the power of God, exalted be He, and His Oneness? The commencing with the [mention of] camels is because they are closer in contact with it [the earth] than any other [animal]. As for His words sutihat, ‘laid out flat’, this on a literal reading suggests that the earth is flat, which is the opinion of most of the scholars of the [revealed] Law, and not a sphere as astronomers (ahl al-hay’a) have it, even if this [latter] does not contradict any of the pillars of the Law.
88:21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ
Pronunciation
Fathakkir innama anta muthakkir
Translation
So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
So remind, them of God’s graces and the proofs affirming His Oneness. For you are only an admonisher;
88:22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ
Pronunciation
Lasta AAalayhim bimusaytir
Translation
You are not over them a controller.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
you are not a taskmaster over them (a variant reading [for musaytir] has musaytir, that is to say, [not one who has been] given authority over them) — this was [revealed] before the command to struggle [against the disbelievers].
88:23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ
Pronunciation
Illa man tawalla wakafar
Translation
However, he who turns away and disbelieves -
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
But he who turns away, [he who] rejects faith, and disbelieves, in the Qur’ān,
88:24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ اللَّهُ الْعَذَابَ الْأَكْبَرَ
Pronunciation
FayuAAaththibuhu Allahu alAAathabaal-akbar
Translation
Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
God will chastise him with the greater chastisement, the chastisement of the Hereafter, the lesser chastisement being that of this world, that of being killed or taken captive.
88:25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَا إِيَابَهُمْ
Pronunciation
Inna ilayna iyabahum
Translation
Indeed, to Us is their return.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Truly to Us will be their return, their coming back after death,
88:26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم
Pronunciation
Thumma inna AAalayna hisabahum
Translation
Then indeed, upon Us is their account.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
then truly with Us will lie their reckoning, their requital, which We will never abandon.
