Al-Kawthar (The Abundance) - سورة الكوثر
[In
the Name of ALLAH, the ENTIRELY MERCIFUL, the ESPECIALLY MERCIFUL]
108:1
إِنَّا
أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ
Pronunciation
Inna
aAAtaynakaalkawthar
Translation
Indeed,
We have granted you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
We
have assuredly given you, O Muhammad (s), Abundance — [the name of] a river in
Paradise and his [the Prophet’s] pool around which his community shall gather;
al-kawthar also means the abundant good [that has been given to the Prophet],
such as prophethood, the Qur’ān, intercession, and the like.
فَصَلِّ
لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
Pronunciation
Fasalli
lirabbika wanhar
Translation
So
pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
So
pray to your Lord, the prayer of the Festival of Immolation (‘īd al-nahr), and
sacrifice, your offering.
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ
هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ
Pronunciation
Inna
shani-aka huwa al-abtar
Translation
Indeed,
your enemy is the one cut off.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Indeed
it is your antagonist, your hater, who is the severed one, refraining from all
[acts of] good, or the one whose line of offspring will be severed [by his not
having any]: this was revealed regarding al-‘Āsī b. Wā’il, who called the
Prophet (s) al-abtar, ‘the severed one’, when his son al-Qāsim died.
