Selected Hadith Regarding Virtues And Merits Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S] And His Family Members (Ahl al-Bayt) (R.A) And His Companions (R.A)

Sahih Muslim, Chapter 85, Book 1: Faith (Kitab Al Iman), Number 0397:
'Abdullah b. Amr b. al-'As (R.A) reported:
Verily the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] recited the words of ALLAH [S.W.T], the GREAT and GLORIOUS, that Ibrahim (P.B.U.H) uttered. My LORD! Lo! They have led many of mankind astray:" But whoso followeth me, he verily is of me" (al-Qur'an, 14.36) and Jesus (P.B.U.H) said:" If THOU punisheth them, Lo! They are THY slaves, and if THOU forgiveth them-verily THOU art the MIGHTY, the WISE" (al-Qur'an, 5.118). Then he raised his hands and said: O LORD, my Ummah, my Ummah, and wept; so ALLAH [S.W.T] the HIGH and the EXALTED said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] (Though your LORD knows it fully well) and ask him: What makes thee weep? So Gabriel (P.B.U.H) came to him and asked him, and the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] informed him what he had said (Though ALLAH [S.W.T] knew it fully well). Upon this ALLAH [S.W.T] said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] and say: Verily WE will please thee with regard to your Ummah and would not displease thee.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 133, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 1760:
Ibn ‘Abbas (R.A) reported:
That while Gabriel (P.B.U.H) was sitting with the Apostle [S.A.W.S] he heard a creaking sound above him. He lifted his head and said: This as a gate opened in heaven today which had never been opened before. Then when an Angel (P.B.U.H) descended through it, he said: This is an Angel (P.B.U.H) who came down to the earth who had never come down before. He greeted and said: Rejoice in two lights given to you which have not been given to any Prophet (P.B.U.T) before you: Falihat al-Kitab (1.1-7) and the concluding verses of Suarah al-Baqara (2.286). You will never recite a letter from them for which you will not be given (a reward).

1. The one to whom ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S) become dearer than anything else.
2. Who loves a person and he loves him Only for ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Sake.

They have more money by which they perform the Hajj, and 'Umra; fight and struggle in ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Cause and give in charity." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Shall I not tell you a thing upon which if you acted you would catch up with those who have surpassed you? Nobody would overtake you and you would be better than the people amongst whom you live except those who would do the same. Say, "Subhan-ALLAH", "Alhamdu-lillah" and "ALLAHU Akbar" thirty three times each after every (compulsory) prayer." We differed and some of us said that we should say, "Subhan-ALLAH" thirty three times and "Alhamdu lillah" thirty three times and "ALLAHU Akbar" thirty four times. I went to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] who said, "Say, "Subhan-ALLAH" and "Alhamdu-lillah" and "ALLAHU Akbar" all together for thirty three times."

I have thought that none will ask me about this Hadith before you, as I know your longing for the (learning of) Hadiths. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who said, 'None has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH,' sincerely from the bottom of his heart."

1. ALLAH [S.W.T] made me victorious by awe (by HIS frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey.
2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum. Therefore, my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.
3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me (and was not made so for anyone else).

Assalamu 'Alaika aiyuha-n-Nabiyu wa-rahmatu-l-lahi wa-barakatuhu. Assalamu alaina wa-'ala 'ibadi-l-lahi as-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa-l-lah wa ashhadu anna Muhammad an 'abdu hu wa Rasuluh. (All the compliments are for ALLAH and all the prayers and all the good things (are for ALLAH). Peace be on you, O Prophet, and ALLAH's Mercy and Blessings (are on you). And Peace be on us and on the good (pious) worshipers of ALLAH [S.W.T]. I testify that none has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH and that Muhammad is HIS slave and Apostle.) She brought out some loaves of barley and took out a veil belonging to her, and wrapped the bread in part of it and put it under my arm and wrapped part of the veil round me and sent me to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]. I went carrying it and found ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] in the Mosque sitting with some people. When I stood there, ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] asked, "Has Abu Talha (R.A) sent you?" I said, "Yes". He asked, "With some food? I said, "Yes" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] then said to the men around him, "Get up!" He set out (accompanied by them) and I went ahead of them till I reached Abu Talha (R.A) and told him (of The Prophet [S.A.W.S]'s visit). Abu Talha (R.A) said, "O Um Sulaim (R.A)! Um Sulaim (R.A) poured on them some butter from an oilskin. Then ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] recited what ALLAH [S.W.T] wished him to recite, and then said, "Let ten persons come (to share the meal)." Ten persons were admitted, ate their fill and went out. Then he again said, "Let another ten do the same." They were admitted, ate their fill and went out.  We used to consider miracles as ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Blessings, but you people consider them to be a warning. Once we were with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] on a journey, and we ran short of water. He said, "Bring the water remaining with you." The people brought a utensil containing a little water. He placed his hand in it and said, "Come to the blessed water, and the Blessing is from ALLAH [S.W.T]." So while The Prophet [S.A.W.S] was delivering a sermon on a Friday a man got up saying, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! The horses and sheep have perished. Will you invoke ALLAH [S.W.T] to bless us with rain?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] lifted both his hands and invoked. The sky at that time was as clear as glass. Suddenly a wind blew, raising clouds that gathered together, and it started raining heavily. We came out (of the Mosque) wading through the flowing water till we reached our homes. It went on raining till the next Friday, when the same man or some other man stood up and said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! The houses have collapsed; please invoke ALLAH [S.W.T] to withhold the rain." On that The Prophet [S.A.W.S] smiled and said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T], (let it rain) around us and not on us." I then looked at the clouds to see them separating forming a sort of a crown round Medina.

He replied, "If you wish." So they made a pulpit for him and when it was Friday, he proceeded towards the pulpit (for delivering the sermon). The date-palm cried like a child! The Prophet [S.A.W.S] descended (the pulpit) and embraced it while it continued moaning like a child being quietened. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "It was crying for (missing) what it used to hear of religious knowledge given near to it."

And you will find that the best people are those who hate responsibility of ruling most of all till they are chosen to be the rulers. And the people are of different natures: The best in the pre-Islamic period are the best in Islam. A time will come when any of you will love to see me rather than to have his family and property doubled."

And whoever will look towards those afflictions, they will overtake him, and whoever will find a refuge or a shelter, should take refuge in it." The same narration is reported by Abu Bakr (R.A), with the addition, "(The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said), 'Among the prayers there is a prayer the missing of which will be to one like losing one's family and property."

The people used to ask ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] about good, but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me. Once I said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! We were in ignorance and in evil and ALLAH [S.W.T] has bestowed upon us the present good; will there by any evil after this good?" He said, "Yes." I asked, "Will there be good after that evil?" He said, "Yes, but it would be tained with Dakhan (i.e. Little evil)." I asked, "What will its Dakhan be?" He said, "There will be some people who will lead (people) according to principles other than my tradition. You will see their actions and disapprove of them." I said, "Will there by any evil after that good?" He said, "Yes, there will be some people who will invite others to the doors of Hell, and whoever accepts their invitation to it will be thrown in it (by them)." I said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! Describe those people to us." He said, "They will belong to us and speak our language" I asked, "What do you order me to do if such a thing should take place in my life?" He said, "Adhere to the group of Muslims and their Chief." I asked, "If there is neither a group (of Muslims) nor a chief (what shall I do)?" He said, "Keep away from all those different sects, even if you had to bite (i.e. eat) the root of a tree, till you meet ALLAH [S.W.T] while you are still in that state."

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "A horse may be kept for one of three purposes: for a man it may be a source of reward; for another it may be a means of living; and for a third it may be a burden (a source of committing sins). As for the one for whom it is a source of reward, he is the one who keeps his horse for the sake of Jihad in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause; he ties it with a long rope on a pasture or in a garden. So whatever its rope allows it to eat, will be regarded as good rewardable deeds (for its owner). And if it breaks off its rope and jumps over one or two hillocks, even its dung will be considered amongst his good deeds. And if it passes by a river and drinks water from it, that will be considered as good deeds for his benefit) even if he has had no intention of watering it. A horse is a shelter for the one who keeps it so that he may earn his living honestly and takes it as a refuge to keep him from following illegal ways (of gaining money), and does not forget the rights of ALLAH [S.W.T] (i.e. paying the Zakat and allowing others to use it for ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Sake). But a horse is a burden (and a source of committing sins for him who keeps it out of pride and pretense and with the intention of harming the Muslims." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] was asked about donkeys. He replied, "Nothing has been revealed to be concerning them except this comprehensive Verse (which covers everything):--'Then whosoever has done good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), Shall see it (its reward) And whosoever has done evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small) ant), Shall see it (Its punishment)." (99.7-8)

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] neither talked in an insulting manner nor did he ever speak evil intentionally. He used to say, "The most beloved to me amongst you is the one who has the best character and manners." He added, " Learn the Qur'an from (any of these) four persons. 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Salim the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa, Ubai bin Ka'b, and Mu'adh bin Jabal (R.A)."

While I was praying, the Prophet [S.A.W.S] passed by and called me, but I did not go to him till I had finished my prayer. When I went to him, he said, "What prevented you from coming?" I said, "I was praying." He said, "Didn't ALLAH [S.W.T] said":- "O you who believe, give your response to ALLAH (by obeying HIM) and to HIS Apostle." (8.24) Then he added, "Shall I tell you the most superior Sura in the Qur'an before I go out of the Mosque?" When the Prophet [S.A.W.S] intended to go out (of the Mosque), I reminded him and he said, "That is: "Alhamdu-lillahi Rabbil-'Alamin (Surat-al-Fatiha)" which is the seven oft repeated verses (Al-Mathani) and the Grand Qur’an which has been given to me."

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said to his companions (R.A), "Is it difficult for any of you to recite one third of the Qur'an in one night?" This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, "Who among us has the power to do so, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied: "ALLAH (the) ONE, the SELF-SUFFICIENT MASTER WHOM all Creatures need.' (Surat Al-Ikhlas 112.1--to the End) is equal to one third of the Qur'an."

A man heard another man reciting (in the prayers): 'Say (O Muhammad): "HE is ALLAH, the ONE." (112.1) And he recited it repeatedly. When it was morning, he went to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and informed him about that as if he considered that the recitation of that Surah by itself was not enough. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "By HIM in WHOSE Hand my life is, it is equal to one-third of the Qur’an."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 93: Oneness, Uniqueness of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Tawheed), Number 472:
Narrated 'Aisha (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] sent (an army unit) under the command of a man who used to lead his companions in the prayers and would finish his recitation with (the Surah 112): 'Say (O Muhammad): "HE is ALLAH, the ONE."' (112.1) When they returned (from the battle), they mentioned that to the Prophet [S.A.W.S]. He said (to them), "Ask him why he does so." They asked him and he said, "I do so because it mentions the Qualities of the BENEFICENT and I love to recite it (in my prayer)." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said (to them), "Tell him that ALLAH [S.W.T] loves him."

I said: ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S] know best. He again said: Abu’l-Mundhir (R.A), do you know the verse from the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: "ALLAH, there is no god but HE, the LIVING, the ETERNAL." (Ayat Al-Kursi (2.255)) Thereupon he struck me on my breast and said: May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu’l-Mundhir (R.A)!

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 5, Book 30: Pertaining To The Excellent Qualities Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] And His Companions (R.A) Number 5668:
Abu Musa (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] as saying: The similitude of that guidance and knowledge with which ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and GLORIOUS, has sent me is that of rain falling upon the earth. There is a good piece of land which receives the rainfall (eagerly) and as a result of it there is grown in it herbage and grass abundantly. Then there is a land hard and barren which retains water and the people derive benefit from it and they drink it and make the animals drink. Then there is another land which is barren. Neither water is retained in it, nor is the grass grown in it. And that is the similitude of the first one who develops the understanding of the religion of ALLAH [S.W.T] and it becomes a source of benefit to him with which ALLAH [S.W.T] sent me. (The second one is that) who acquires the knowledge of religion and imparts it to others. (Then the other type is) one who does not pay attention to (the revealed knowledge) and thus does not accept guidance of ALLAH [S.W.T] with which I have been sent.

That whenever he had to choose between two things he adopted the easier one, provided it was nor sin, but if it was any sin he was the one who was the farthest from it of the people; and ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] never took revenge from anyone because of his personal grievance, unless what ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and GLORIOUS, had made inviolable had been violated.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 23, Book 30: Pertaining To The Excellent Qualities Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] And His Companions (R.A) Number 5768:

That there had appeared some whiteness on the front part of the head and beard of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]. When he applied oil, it did not become visible, but when he did not (apply) oil, it became apparent. And he had a thick beard. A person said: His face was as (bright) as the sword. Thereupon he (Jabir (R.A)) said: No, it was round and like the sun and the moon. And I saw the seal near his shoulder of the size of a pigeon's egg and its color was the same as that of his body.

Verily the people before you went to their doom because they had put too many questions to their Prophets (P.B.U.T) and then disagreed with their teachings.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 39, Book 30: Pertaining To The Excellent Qualities Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] And His Companions (R.A) Number 5853:
Abu Huraira (R.A) reported:
While a Jew was selling goods, he was given something which he did not accept or he did not agree (to accept) that 'Abdul 'Aziz (R.A) (one of the narrators) is doubtful about it. He (the Jew) said: By ALLAH [S.W.T], WHO chose Moses (P.B.U.H) among mankind. A person from the Ansar heard it and gave a blow at his face saying: (You have the audacity) to say: By HIM WHO chose Moses (P.B.U.H) amongst mankind, whereas ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] is living amongst us. The Jew went to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] and said: Abu'l-Qasim [S.A.W.S], I am a Dhimmi and (thus need your protection) by a covenant, and added: Such and such person has given a blow upon my face. Thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: Why did you give a blow on his face? He said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], this man said: By HIM WHO chose Moses (P.B.U.H) amongst mankind, whereas you are living amongst us. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] became angry and signs of anger could be seen on his face, and then said: Don't make distinction amongst The Prophets (P.B.U.T) of ALLAH [S.W.T]. When the horn will be blown and whatever is in the heavens and the earth would swoon but he whom ALLAH [S.W.T] grants exception, then another horn will be blown and I would be the first amongst those who would recover and Moses (P.B.U.H) would be catching hold of the Throne and I do not know whether it is a compensation for that when he swooned on the Day of Tur or he would be resurrected before me and I do not say that anyone is more excellent than Yunus son of Matta (P.B.U.H). This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Salama (R.A) with the same chain of transmitters.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 55: Prophets (P.B.U.T), Number 590:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] used to seek Refuge with ALLAH [S.W.T] for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (R.A) and say: "Your forefather (i.e. Abraham (P.B.U.H)) used to seek Refuge with ALLAH [S.W.T] for Ishmael and Isaac (P.B.U.T) by reciting the following: 'O ALLAH [S.W.T]! I seek Refuge with YOUR Perfect Words from every devil and from poisonous pests and from every evil, harmful, envious eye.' "

(Once) Abu Bakr (R.A) offered the 'Asr prayer and then went out walking and saw Al-Hasan (R.A) playing with the boys. He lifted him on to his shoulders and said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for your sake! (You) resemble the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and not 'Ali (R.A)," while 'Ali (R.A) was smiling.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 56: Virtues And Merits Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S] and His Companions (R.A), Number 786:

Once 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A) said, said, "Who amongst you remembers the statement of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] regarding the afflictions?" Hudhaifa (R.A) replied, "I remember what he said exactly." 'Umar (R.A) said. "Tell (us), you are really a daring man!'' Hudhaifa (R.A) said, "ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, 'A man's afflictions (i.e. wrong deeds) concerning his relation to his family, his property and his neighbors are expiated by his prayers, giving in charity and enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.'" 'Umar (R.A) said, "I don't mean these afflictions but the afflictions that will be heaving up and down like waves of the sea." Hudhaifa (R.A) replied, "O chief of the believers! You need not fear those (afflictions) as there is a closed door between you and them." 'Umar (R.A) asked, "Will that door be opened or broken?" Hudhaifa (R.A) replied, "No, it will be broken." 'Umar (R.A) said, "Then it is very likely that the door will not be closed again." Later on the people asked Hudhaifa (R.A), "Did 'Umar (R.A) know what that door meant?" He said. "Yes, 'Umar (R.A) knew it as everyone knows that there will be night before the tomorrow morning. I narrated to 'Umar (R.A) an authentic narration, not lies." We dared not ask Hudhaifa (R.A); therefore we requested Masruq (R.A) who asked him, "What does the door stand for?" He said, "Umar (R.A)."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 56: Virtues And Merits Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S] and His Companions (R.A), Number 821:

About Ibn 'Abbas (R.A): 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A) used to treat Ibn 'Abbas (R.A) very favorably 'Abdur Rahman bin 'Auf (R.A) said to him. "We also have sons that are equal to him (but you are partial to him.)" Umar (R.A) said, "It is because of his knowledge." Then 'Umar (R.A) asked Ibn 'Abbas (R.A) about the interpretation of the Verse:- 'When come the Help of ALLAH and the conquest (of Mecca) (110.1) Ibn 'Abbas (R.A) said. "It portended the death of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S], which ALLAH [S.W.T] had informed him of." 'Umar (R.A) said, "I do not know from this Verse but what you know."

Abu Bakr (R.A) wept, and we were astonished at his weeping caused by what the Prophet [S.A.W.S] mentioned as to a Slave ( of ALLAH [S.W.T]) who had been offered a choice, (we learned later on) that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] himself was the person who was given the choice, and that Abu Bakr (R.A) knew best of all of us. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] added, "The person who has favored me most of all both with his company and wealth, is Abu Bakr (R.A). If I were to take a Khalil other than my LORD, I would have taken Abu Bakr (R.A) as such, but (what relates us) is the Islamic brotherhood and friendliness. All the gates of the Mosque should be closed except the gate of Abu Bakr (R.A)."

Narrated Abu Ad-Darda (R.A):
While I was sitting with the Prophet [S.A.W.S], Abu Bakr (R.A) came, lifting up one corner of his garment uncovering his knee. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Your companion has had a quarrel." Abu Bakr (R.A) greeted (the Prophet [S.A.W.S]) and said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! There was something (i.e. quarrel) between me and the Son of Al-Khattab (R.A). I talked to him harshly and then regretted that, and requested him to forgive me, but he refused. This is why I have come to you." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said thrice, "O Abu Bakr (R.A)! May ALLAH [S.W.T] forgive you." In the meanwhile, 'Umar (R.A) regretted (his refusal of Abu Bakr (R.A)'s excuse) and went to Abu Bakr (R.A)'s house and asked if Abu Bakr (R.A) was there. They replied in the negative. So he came to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and greeted him, but signs of displeasure appeared on the face of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] till Abu Bakr (R.A) pitied ('Umar (R.A)), so he knelt and said twice, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! By ALLAH [S.W.T]! I was more unjust to him (than he to me)." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] sent me (as a Prophet) to you (people) but you said (to me), 'You are telling a lie,' while Abu Bakr (R.A) said, 'He has said the truth,' and consoled me with himself and his money." He then said twice, "Won't you then give up harming my companion?" After that nobody harmed Abu Bakr (R.A).

I heard ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] saying, "While I was sleeping, I saw myself standing at a well, on it there was a bucket. I drew water from the well as much as ALLAH [S.W.T] wished. Then Ibn Abi Quhafa (i.e. Abu Bakr (R.A)) took the bucket from me and brought out one or two buckets (of water) and there was weakness in his drawing the water. May ALLAH [S.W.T] forgive his weakness for him. Then the bucket turned into a very big one and Ibn Al-Khattab (R.A) took it over and I had never seen such a mighty person amongst the people as him in performing such hard work, till the people drank to their satisfaction and watered their camels that knelt down there."

This is good.' He who is amongst those who pray will be called from the gate of the prayer (in Paradise) and he who is from the people of Jihad will be called from the gate of Jihad, and he who is from those' who give in charity (i.e. Zakat) will be called from the gate of charity, and he who is amongst those who observe fast will be called from the gate of fasting, the gate of Raiyan." Abu Bakr (R.A) said, "He who is called from all those gates will need nothing," He added, "Will anyone be called from all those gates, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?" He said, "Yes, and I hope you will be among those, O Abu Bakr (R.A)."

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] is not dead!" 'Umar (R.A) (later on) said, "By ALLAH [S.W.T]! Nothing occurred to my mind except that." He said, "Verily! ALLAH [S.W.T] will resurrect him and he will cut the hands and legs of some men." Then Abu Bakr (R.A) came and uncovered the face of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S], kissed him and said, "Let my mother and father be sacrificed for you, (O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]), you are good in life and in death. By ALLAH [S.W.T] in WHOSE Hands my life is, ALLAH [S.W.T] will never make you taste death twice." Then he went out and said, "O oath-taker! Don't be hasty." When Abu Bakr (R.A) spoke, 'Umar (R.A) sat down. Abu Bakr (R.A) Praised and Glorified ALLAH [S.W.T] and said, No doubt! Whoever Worshiped Muhammad [S.A.W.S], then Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is dead, but whoever Worshiped ALLAH [S.W.T], then ALLAH [S.W.T] is Alive and shall never die." Then he recited ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Statement:-- "(O Muhammad) Verily you will die, and they also will die." (39.30) He also recited:-- "Muhammad is no more than an Apostle; and indeed many Apostles have passed away, before him, If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on your heels? And he who turns back on his heels, not the least harm will he do to ALLAH [S.W.T] And ALLAH [S.W.T] will give reward to those who are grateful." (3.144) The people wept loudly, and the Ansar were assembled with Sad bin 'Ubada in the shed of Bani Saida. They said (to the emigrants). "There should be one 'Amir from us and one from you." Then Abu Bakr, Umar bin Al-Khattab and Abu 'baida bin Al-Jarrah (R.A) went to them. 'Umar (R.A) wanted to speak but Abu Bakr (R.A) stopped him. 'Umar (R.A) later on used to say, "By ALLAH [S.W.T], I intended only to say something that appealed to me and I was afraid that Abu Bakr (R.A) would not speak so well. Then Abu Bakr (R.A) spoke and his speech was very eloquent. He said in his statement, "We are the rulers and you (Ansars) are the ministers (i.e. advisers)," Hubab bin Al-Mundhir said, "No, by ALLAH [S.W.T] we won't accept this. But there must be a ruler from us and a ruler from you." Abu Bakr (R.A) said, "No, we will be the rulers and you will be the ministers, for they (i.e. Quarish) are the best family amongst the 'Arabs and of best origin. So you should elect either 'Umar (R.A) or Abu 'Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah (R.A) as your ruler." 'Umar (R.A) said (to Abu Bakr (R.A)), "No but we elect you, for you are our chief and the best amongst us and the most beloved of all of us to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]." So 'Umar (R.A) took Abu Bakr (R.A)'s hand and gave the pledge of allegiance and the people too gave the pledge of allegiance to Abu Bakr (R.A). Someone said, "You have killed Sad bin Ubada." 'Umar (R.A) said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] has killed him." 'Aisha (R.A) said (in another narration), ("When the Prophet [S.A.W.S] was on his death-bed) he looked up and said thrice, (Amongst) the Highest Companion (See Qur'an 4.69)' Aisha (R.A) said, ALLAH [S.W.T] benefited the people by their two speeches. 'Umar (R.A) frightened the people some of whom were hypocrites whom ALLAH [S.W.T] caused to abandon Islam because of 'Umar (R.A)'s speech. Then Abu Bakr (R.A) led the people to True Guidance and acquainted them with the right path they were to follow so that they went out reciting:-- "Muhammad is no more than an Apostle and indeed many Apostles have passed away before him.."  I asked my father ('Ali bin Abi Talib (R.A)), "Who are the best people after ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?" He said, "Abu Bakr (R.A)." I asked, "Who then?" He said, "Then 'Umar (R.A). " I was afraid he would say "Uthman (R.A), so I said, "Then you?" He said, "I am only an ordinary person.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 22:

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Do not abuse my companions (R.A) for if any one of you spent gold equal to Uhud (in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause) it would not be equal to a Mud or even a half Mud spent by one of them."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 23:
Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ashari (R.A):
I performed ablution in my house and then went out and said, "Today I shall stick to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and stay with him all this day of mine (in his service)." I went to the Mosque and asked about the Prophet [S.A.W.S]. They said, "He had gone in this direction." So I followed his way, asking about him till he entered a place called Bir Aris. I sat at its gate that was made of date-palm leaves till the Prophet [S.A.W.S] finished answering the call of nature and performed ablution. Then I went up to him to see him sitting at the well of Aris at the middle of its edge with his legs uncovered, hanging in the well. I greeted him and went back and sat at the gate. I said, "Today I will be the gatekeeper of the Prophet [S.A.W.S]." Abu Bakr (R.A) came and pushed the gate. I asked, "Who is it?" He said, "Abu Bakr (R.A)." I told him to wait, went in and said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! Abu Bakr (R.A) asks for permission to enter." He said, "Admit him and give him the glad tidings that he will be in Paradise." So I went out and said to Abu Bakr (R.A), "Come in, and ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] gives you the glad tidings that you will be in Paradise" Abu Bakr (R.A) entered and sat on the right side of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] on the built edge of the well and hung his legs in the well as the Prophet [S.A.W.S] did and uncovered his legs. I then returned and sat (at the gate). I had left my brother performing ablution and he intended to follow me. So I said (to myself). "If ALLAH [S.W.T] wants good for so-and-so (i.e. my brother) HE will bring him here." Suddenly somebody moved the door. I asked, "Who is it?" He said, "'Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A)." I asked him to wait, went to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S], greeted him and said, 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A) asks the permission to enter." He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings that he will be in Paradise." I went to "Umar (R.A) and said "Come in, and ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S], gives you the glad tidings that you will be in Paradise." So he entered and sat beside ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] on the built edge of the well on the left side and hung his legs in the well. I returned and sat (at the gate) and said, (to myself), "If ALLAH [S.W.T] wants good for so-and-so, He will bring him here." Somebody came and moved the door. I asked "Who is it?" He replied, "Uthman bin Affan (R.A)." I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and informed him. He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise, I asked him to wait and went to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and informed him. He said, "Admit him, and give him the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall him." So I went up to him and said to him, "Come in; ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] gives you the glad tidings of entering Paradise after a calamity that will befall you." Uthman (R.A) then came in and found that the built edge of the well was occupied, so he sat opposite to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] on the other side. Said bin Al-Musaiyab (R.A) said, "I interpret this (narration) in terms of their graves."

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] once climbed the mountain of Uhud with Abu Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthman (R.A). The mountain shook with them. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said (to the mountain), "Be firm, O Uhud! For on you there are no more than a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs.

Somebody said, 'It is Bilal' (R.A). Then I saw a palace and a lady sitting in its courtyard. I asked, 'For whom is this palace?' Somebody replied, 'It is for 'Umar (R.A).' I intended to enter it and see it, but I thought of your ('Umar (R.A)'s) Ghira (and gave up the attempt)." 'Umar (R.A) said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! How dare I think of my Ghira (self-respect) being offended by you?

I asked, 'For whom is this palace?' They replied, 'It is for 'Umar (R.A).' Then I remembered 'Umar (R.A)'s Ghira (self-respect) and went away quickly." Umar (R.A) wept and said, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! How dare I think of my ghira (self-respect) being offended by you?

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "While I was sleeping, I saw myself drinking (i.e. milk), and I was so contented that I saw the milk flowing through my nails. Then I gave (the milk) to 'Umar (R.A)." They (i.e. the Companions (R.A) of the Prophet [S.A.W.S]) asked, "What do you interpret it?" He said, "Knowledge."

Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A) asked the permission of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] to see him while some Quraishi women were sitting with him, talking to him and asking him for more expenses, raising their voices above the voice of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]. When 'Umar (R.A) asked for the permission to enter, the women quickly put on their veils. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] allowed him to enter and 'Umar (R.A) came in while ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] was smiling, 'Umar (R.A) said "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! May ALLAH [S.W.T] always keep you smiling." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "These women who have been here, roused my wonder, for as soon as they heard your voice, they quickly put on their veils. "'Umar (R.A) said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! You have more right to be feared by them than I." Then 'Umar (R.A) addressed the women saying, "O enemies of yourselves! You fear me more than you do ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?" They said, "Yes, for you are harsher and sterner than ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]." Then ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "O Ibn Al-Khattab (R.A)! By HIM in WHOSE Hands my life is! Never does satan find you going on a way, but he takes another way other than yours."

When (the dead body of) 'Umar (R.A) was put on his deathbed, the people gathered around him and invoked (ALLAH [S.W.T]) and prayed for him before the body was taken away, and I was amongst them. Suddenly I felt somebody taking hold of my shoulder and found out that he was 'Ali bin Abi Talib (R.A). 'Ali (R.A) invoked ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Mercy for 'Umar (R.A) and said, "O 'Umar (R.A)! You have not left behind you a person whose deeds I like to imitate and meet ALLAH [S.W.T] with more than I like your deeds. By ALLAH [S.W.T]! I always thought that ALLAH [S.W.T] would keep you with your two companions (R.A), for very often I used to hear the Prophet [S.A.W.S] saying, 'I, Abu Bakr and 'Umar (R.A) went (somewhere); I, Abu Bakr and 'Umar (R.A) entered (somewhere); and I, Abu Bakr and 'Umar (R.A) went out."'

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 37:

A man asked the Prophet [S.A.W.S] about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, "When will the Hour be?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except that I love ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S]." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "You will be with those whom you love." We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] (i.e., "You will be with those whom you love.") Therefore, I love the Prophet [S.A.W.S], Abu Bakr and 'Umar (R.A), and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs.

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A): The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Among the nation of Bani Israel who lived before you, there were men who used to be inspired with guidance though they were not Prophets, and if there is any of such persons amongst my followers, it is 'Umar (R.A)."

The wolf turned towards the shepherd and said, 'Who will guard the sheep on the day of wild animals when it will have no shepherd except myself?" The people said, "Glorified be ALLAH [S.W.T]." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "But I believe in it and so do Abu Bakr and 'Umar (R.A) although Abu Bakr and 'Umar (R.A) were not present there (at the place of the event).

They were wearing shirts, some of which were merely covering their (chests) and some were a bit longer. 'Umar (R.A) was presented before me and his shirt was so long that he was dragging it." They asked, "How have you interpreted it, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?" He said, "Religion."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 41:
Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama (R.A):
When 'Umar (R.A) was stabbed, he showed signs of agony. Ibn 'Abbas (R.A), as if intending to encourage 'Umar (R.A), said to him, "O Chief of the believers! Never mind what has happened to you, for you have been in the company of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and you kept good relations with him and you parted with him while he was pleased with you. Then you were in the company of Abu Bakr (R.A) and kept good relations with him and you parted with him (i.e. he died) while he was pleased with you. Then you were in the company of the Muslims, and you kept good relations with them, and if you leave them, you will leave them while they are pleased with you." 'Umar (R.A) said, (to Ibn "Abbas (R.A)), "As for what you have said about the company of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and his being pleased with me, it is a favor, ALLAH [S.W.T] did to me; and as for what you have said about the company of Abu Bakr (R.A) and his being pleased with me, it is a favor ALLAH [S.W.T] did to me; and concerning my impatience which you see, is because of you and your companions (R.A). By ALLAH [S.W.T]! If (at all) I had gold equal to the earth, I would have ransomed myself with it from the Punishment of ALLAH [S.W.T] before I meet HIM."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 51:
Narrated Sahl bin Sad (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "Tomorrow I will give the flag to a man with whose leadership ALLAH [S.W.T] will grant (the Muslim) victory." So the people kept on thinking the whole night as to who would be given the flag. The next morning the people went to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and every one of them hoped that he would be given the flag. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Where is Ali bin Abi Talib (R.A)?" The people replied, "He is suffering from eye trouble, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]." He said, "Send for him and bring him to me." So when 'Ali (R.A) came, the Prophet [S.A.W.S] spat in his eyes and invoked good on him, and he became alright as if he had no ailment. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then gave him the flag. 'Ali (R.A) said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! Shall I fight them (i.e. enemy) till they become like us?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Proceed to them steadily till you approach near to them and then invite them to Islam and inform them of their duties towards ALLAH [S.W.T] which Islam prescribes for them, for by ALLAH [S.W.T], if one man is guided on the right path (i.e. converted to Islam) through you, it would be better for you than (a great number of) red camels."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 53:
Narrated Abu Hazim (R.A):
A man came to Sahl bin Sad (R.A) and said, "This is so-and-so," meaning the Governor of Medina, "He is calling 'Ali (R.A) bad names near the pulpit." Sahl (R.A) asked, "What is he saying?" He (i.e. the man) replied, "He calls him (i.e. 'Ali (R.A)) Abu Turab." Sahl (R.A) laughed and said, "By ALLAH [S.W.T], none but the Prophet [S.A.W.S] called him by this name and no name was dearer to 'Ali (R.A) than this." So I asked Sahl (R.A) to tell me more, saying, "O Abu 'Abbas (R.A)! How (was this name given to 'Ali (R.A))?" Sahl (R.A) said, "'Ali (R.A) went to Fatima (R.A) and then came out and slept in the Mosque. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] asked Fatima (R.A), "Where is your cousin?" She said, "In the Mosque." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] went to him and found that his (i.e. 'Ali (R.A)'s) covering sheet had slipped of his back and dust had soiled his back. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] started wiping the dust off his back and said twice, "Get up! O Abu Turab (i.e. O. man with the dust)."

Some Captives were brought to the Prophet [S.A.W.S], she came to him but did not find him at home 'Aisha (R.A) was present there to whom she told (of her desire for a servant). When the Prophet [S.A.W.S] came, 'Aisha (R.A) informed him about Fatima (R.A)'s visit. 'Ali (R.A) added "So the Prophet [S.A.W.S] came to us, while we had gone to our bed I wanted to get up but the Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Remain at your place". Then he sat down between us till I found the coolness of his feet on my chest. Then he said, "Shall I teach you a thing which is better than what you have asked me? When you go to bed, say, 'ALLAHU-Akbar' thirty-four times, and 'Subhan ALLAH thirty-three times, and 'Alhamdu-lillah thirty-three times for that is better for you both than a servant."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 57:
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
The people used to say, "Abu Huraira (R.A) narrates too many narrations." In fact I used to keep close to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and was satisfied with what filled my stomach. I ate no leavened bread and dressed no decorated striped clothes, and never did a man or a woman serve me, and I often used to press my belly against gravel because of hunger, and I used to ask a man to recite a Qur’anic Verse to me although I knew it, so that he would take me to his home and feed me. And the most generous of all the people to the poor was Ja'far bin Abi Talib (R.A). He used to take us to his home and offer us what was available therein. He would even offer us an empty folded leather container (of butter) which we would split and lick whatever was in it.

We used to request our Prophet [S.A.W.S] to ask YOU for rain, and YOU would give us. Now we request the uncle of our Prophet [S.A.W.S] to ask YOU for rain, so give us rain." And they would be given rain."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) Of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 62:

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] called his daughter Fatima (R.A) during his illness in which he died, and told her a secret whereupon she wept. Then he called her again and told her a secret whereupon she laughed. When I asked her about that, she replied, "The Prophet [S.A.W.S] spoke to me in secret and informed me that he would die in the course of the illness during which he died, so I wept. He again spoke to me in secret and informed me that I would be the first of his family to follow him (after his death) and on that I laughed."

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] sent an army under the command of Usama bin Zaid (R.A). When some people criticized his leadership, the Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "If you are criticizing Usama (R.A)'s leadership, you used to criticize his father's leadership before. By ALLAH [S.W.T]! The freed slave of Usama bin Zaid (R.A) said, "Al-Hajjaj bin Aiman bin Um Aiman and Aiman Ibn Um Aiman (R.A) was Usama (R.A)'s brother from the maternal side, and he was one of the Ansar. He was seen by Ibn 'Umar (R.A) not performing his bowing and prostrations in a perfect manner. So Ibn 'Umar (R.A) told him to repeat his prayer. Harmala (R.A), the freed slave of Usama bin Zaid (R.A) said that while he was in the company of 'Abdullah bin 'Umar, Al-Hajjaj bin Aiman (R.A) came in and (while praying) he did not perform his bowing and prostrations properly. So Ibn 'Umar (R.A) told him to repeat his prayer. When he went away, Ibn 'Umar (R.A) asked me, "Who is he?" I said, "Al-Hajjaj bin Um Aiman (R.A)." Ibn 'Umar (R.A) said, "If ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] saw him, he would have loved him." Then Ibn 'Umar (R.A) mentioned the love of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] for the children of Um Aiman (R.A). I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this. When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar (R.A) who said: I see that you have just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but ALLAH and that Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is the servant of ALLAH and HIS Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

He gave no reply. I again asked and he gave no reply. I asked him for the third time, and he said: I asked ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] about that and he said: Make frequent prostrations before ALLAH [S.W.T], for you will not make one prostration without raising you a degree because of it, and removing a sin from you, because of it. Ma’dan (R.A) said: That then he met Abu al-Darda’ (R.A) and when he asked him, he received a reply similar to that given by Thauban (R.A).

Recite the two bright ones, Surah al-Baqara and Surah Al ‘Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it. They observe prayer as we do; they keep the fasts as we keep, and they give sadaqa out of their surplus riches. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Has ALLAH [S.W.T] not prescribed for you (a course) by following which you can (also) do sadaqa? In every declaration of the Glorification of ALLAH [S.W.T] (i.e. saying Subhan ALLAH) there is a sadaqa, and every Takbir (i.e. saying ALLAHU Akbar) is a sadaqa, and every Praise of HIS (saying al-Hamdu Lillah) is a sadaqa and every declaration that HE is ONE (La illha ill-ALLAH) is a sadaqa, and enjoining of good is a sadaqa, and forbidding of that which is evil is a sadaqa, and in man's sexual intercourse (with his wife,) there is a sadaqa. They (the Companions (R.A)) said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], is there reward for him who satisfies his sexual passion among us? Also heard him say: A small force of the Muslims will capture the white palace, the police of the Persian Emperor or his descendants. I also heard him say: Before the Day of Judgment there will appear (a number of) impostors. You are to guard against them. I also heard him say: When ALLAH [S.W.T] grants wealth to any one of you, he should first spend it on himself and his family (and then give it in charity to the poor). He commanded the announcer to make announcement to the effect that he to whom ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] had held out promise or owed any debt should come (to him). I came and said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] had said to me: In case there comes to us the wealth of Bahrain I shall give you so much, and so much. Then 'Uthman (R.A) sought permission for getting in; ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] sat down and he set right his clothes. Muhammad (R.A) (one of the narrators) said: I do not say that it happened on the same day. He ('Uthman (R.A)) then entered and conversed and as he went out, A'isha (R.A) said: Abu Bakr (R.A) entered and you did not stir and did not observe much care (in arranging your clothes), then 'Umar (R.A) entered and you did not stir and did not arrange your clothes, then 'Uthman (R.A) entered and you got up and set your clothes right, thereupon he said: Should I not show modesty to one whom even the Angels (P.B.U.H) show modesty.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 4, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions (R.A) Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 5914:
Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas (R.A) reported:
That ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] left 'Ali b. Abi Talib (R.A) behind him (as he proceeded) to the expedition of Tabuk, whereupon he ('Ali (R.A)) said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], are you leaving me behind amongst women and children? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Aren't you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron (P.B.U.H) was unto Moses (P.B.U.H) but with this exception that there would be no Prophet after me.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 4, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions (R.A) Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 5915:
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Shu'ba (R.A) with the same chain of transmitters. Amir b. Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas (R.A) reported on the authority of his father:
That Muawiya b. Abi Sufyin appointed Sa'd (R.A) as the Governor and said: What prevents you from abusing Abu Turab (Hadrat 'Ali (R.A)), whereupon he said: It is because of three things which I remember ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] having said about him that I would not abuse him and even if I find one of those three things for me, it would be more dear to me than the red camel. I heard ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] say about 'Ali (R.A) as he left behind him in one of his campaigns (that was Tabuk). 'Ali (R.A) said to him: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], you leave me behind along with women and children. Thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said to him: Aren't you satisfied with being unto me what Aaron (P.B.U.H) was unto Moses (P.B.U.H) but with this exception that there is no Prophet after me. And I (also) heard him say on the Day of Khaibar: I would certainly give this standard to a person who loves ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Messenger [S.A.W.S] and ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Messenger [S.A.W.S] love him too. He (the narrator) said: We have been anxiously waiting for it, when he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Call 'Ali (R.A). He was called and his eyes were inflamed. He applied saliva to his eyes and handed over the standard to him, and ALLAH [S.W.T] gave him victory. (The third occasion is this) when the (following) verse was revealed: "Let us summon our children and your children." ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] called 'Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain (R.A) and said: O ALLAH [S.W.T], they are my family.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 4, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 5920:
Yazid b. Hayyan (R.A) reported:
I went along with Husain b. Sabra and ‘Umar b. Muslim to Zaid b. Arqam (R.A) and, as we sat by his side, Husain (R.A) said to him: Zaid (R.A), you have been able to acquire a great virtue that you saw ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] listened to his talk, fought by his side in (different) battles, offered prayer behind me. Zaid (R.A), you have in fact earned a great virtue. Zaid (R.A), narrate to us what you heard from ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]. He said: I have grown old and have almost spent my age and I have forgotten some of the things which I remembered in connection with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], so accept whatever I narrate to you, and which I do not narrate do not compel me to do that. He then said: One day ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] stood up to deliver sermon at a watering place known as Khumm situated between Mecca and Medina. He Praised ALLAH [S.W.T], Extolled HIM and delivered the sermon and exhorted (us) and said: Now to our purpose. O people, I am a human being. I am about to receive a messenger (the Angel of death (P.B.U.H)) from my LORD and I, in response to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s call, (would bid good-bye to you), but I am leaving among you two weighty things: the one being the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] in which there is right guidance and light, so hold fast to the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] and adhere to it. He exhorted (us) (to hold fast) to the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] and then said: The second are the members of my household I remind you (of your duties) to the members of my family. He (Husain (R.A)) said to Zaid (R.A): Who are the members of his household? Aren’t his wives the members of his family? Thereupon he said: His wives are the members of his family (but here) the members of his family are those for whom acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. And he said: Who are they? Thereupon he said: ‘Ali (R.A) and the offspring of ‘Ali (R.A), ‘Aqil (R.A) and the offspring of ‘Aqil (R.A) and the offspring of Ja’far (R.A) and the offspring of ‘Abbas (R.A). Husain (R.A) said: These are those for whom the acceptance of Zakat is forbidden. Zaid (R.A) said: Yes.

That ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] laid down on bed during one night on his arrival at Medina and said: Were there a pious person from amongst my companions (R.A) who should keep a watch for me during the night? She (A'isha (R.A)) reported: We were in this state that we heard the clanging noise of arms lie (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Who is it? He said: This is Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas (R.A). ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said to him: What brings you here? Thereupon he said: I harbored fear (lest any harm should come to) ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], so I came to serve as your sentinel. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] invoked Blessings upon him. He then slept.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 8, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions (R.A) Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 5952:
Abu Huraira (R.A) reported:
I went along with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] at a time during the day but he did not talk to me and I did not talk to him until he reached Bazar of Banfi Qainuqal. He came back to the tent of Fatima (R.A) and said: Is the little chap (meaning Hasan (R.A)) there? We were under the impression that his mother had detained him in order to bathe him and dress him and garland him with a sweet garland. Not much time had passed that he (Hasan (R.A)) came running until both of them embraced each other, thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: O ALLAH [S.W.T], I love him; love him THOU and love one who loves him (i.e. Hasan (R.A)).

Then came Fatima (R.A) and he took her under it, then came 'Ali (R.A) and he also took him under it and then said: ALLAH [S.W.T] only desires to take away any uncleanliness from you, O people of the household, and purify you (thorough purifying).

When she comes to you, offer her greetings from her LORD, the EXALTED and GLORIOUS, and on my behalf and give her glad tidings of a palace of jewels in Paradise wherein there is no noise and no toil. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (R.A) through another chain of transmitters with a slight variation of wording.

He again said to her something secretly and she laughed. 'A'isha (R.A) further reported: That she said to Fatima (R.A): What is that which ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said to you secretly and you wept and then said to you something secretly and you laughed? Thereupon she said: He informed me secretly of his death and so I wept. He then again informed me secretly that I would be the first amongst the members of his family to follow him and so I laughed.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 15, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions (R.A) Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 6004:
'A'isha (R.A) reported:
We, the wives of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S], were with him (during his last illness) and none was absent therefrom that Fatima (R.A), who walked after the style of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], came there, and when he saw her he welcomed her saying: You are welcome, my daughter. He their made her sit on his right side or on his left side. Then he said something secretly to her and she wept bitterly and when he found her (plunged) in grief he said to her something secretly for the second time and she laughed. I ('A'isha (R.A)) said to her: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] has singled you amongst the women (of the family) for talking (to you something secretly) and you wept. When ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] recovered from illness, I said to her. What did ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger say to you? Thereupon she said: I am not going to disclose the secret of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]. When ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] died, I said to her: I adjure you by the right that I have upon you that you should narrate to me what ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said to you. She said: Yes, now I can do that (so listen to it). When he talked to me secretly for the first time he informed me that Gabirel (P.B.U.H) was in the habit of reciting the Qur'an along with him once or twice every year, but this year it had been twice and so he perceived his death quite near, so fear ALLAH [S.W.T] and be patient (and he told me) that he would be a befitting forerunner for me and so I wept as you saw me. And when he saw me in grief he talked to me secretly for the second time and said: Fatima (R.A), are you not pleased that you should be at the head of the believing women or the head of this Ummah? I laughed and it was that laughter which you saw.

As we came to her, she wept. They (Abu Bakr and Umar (R.A)) said to her: What makes you weep? What is in store (in the next world) for ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] is better than (this worldly life). She said: I weep not because I am ignorant of the fact that what is in store for ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] (in the next world) is better than (this world), but I weep because the revelation which came from the Heaven has ceased to come. This moved both of them to tears and they began to weep along with her.

Thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: You may weep or you may not weep; the Angels (P.B.U.T) provide him shade with the help of their wings until you lift him (to be buried in the grave).

They said: So and so and so. He again said: Is there anyone missing amongst you? They said: So and so and so. He then said: Is there anyone missing amongst you? They (his companions (R.A)) searched him amongst those who had been killed and they found him by the side of seven (dead bodies) whom he had killed and he had been killed (by the opponents). ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] came there and stood (by his side) and said: He killed seven (persons). Then (his opponents) killed him. He is mine and I am his. Then the grave was dug for him and he was placed in the grave and no mention is made of a bath.

I was sleeping in the Mosque during the lifetime of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] that I saw in a dream as if two Angels (P.B.U.T) have taken hold of me and they have carried me to the fire, and, lo, it was built like the easing of a well and had two pillars like those of a well; and, lo, there were people in it whom I knew and I cried out: I seek refuge with ALLAH [S.W.T] from Hell-fire; I seek refuge with ALLAH [S.W.T] from Hell-fire. Then another Angel (P.B.U.H) joined the two others, and said unto me: You need not fear I narrated this dream to Hafsa (R.A) and she narrated it to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], whereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle said: Worthy is this man Abdullah (R.A), O that he would pray at night, and Salim (R.A) added that Abdullah (R.A) afterwards slept only but for a small part of the night.

I invited my mother, who was a polytheist, to Islam. I invited her one day and she said to me something about ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] which I hated. I came to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] weeping and said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], I invited my mother to Islam but she did not accept (my invitation). I invited her today but she said to me something which I did not like. (Kindly) supplicate ALLAH [S.W.T] that HE may set the mother of Abu Huraira (R.A) right. Thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: O ALLAH [S.W.T], set the mother of Abu Huraira (R.A) on the right path. I came out quite pleased with the supplication of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and when I came near the door it was closed from within. My mother heard the noise of my footsteps and she said: Abu Huraira (R.A), just wait, and I heard the noise of falling of water. She took a bath and put on the shirt and quickly covered her head with a headdress and opened the door and then said: Abu Huraira (R.A), I bear witness to the fact that there is no god but ALLAH [S.W.T] and Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is HIS bondsman and HIS Messenger. He (Abu Huraira (R.A)) said: I went back to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] and (this time) I was shedding the tears of joy. I said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], be happy, for ALLAH [S.W.T] has responded to your supplication and HE has set on the right path the mother of Abu Huraira (R.A). He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) Praised ALLAH [S.W.T], and Extolled HIM and uttered good words. I said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], supplicate to ALLAH [S.W.T] so that HE may instill love of mine and that of my mother too in the believing servants and let our hearts be filled with their love, whereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: O ALLAH [S.W.T], let there be love of these servants of yours, i.e. Abu Huraira (R.A) and his mother, in the hearts of the believing servants and let their hearts be filled with the love of the believing servants. (Abu Huraira (R.A) said: This prayer) was so well granted by ALLAH [S.W.T] that no believer was ever born who heard of me and who saw me but did not love me.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 35, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions (R.A) Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 6085:
'A'isha (R.A) reported:
Don't you feel surprised at Abu Huraira (R.A)? He came (one day) and sat beside the nook of my apartment and began to narrate (the hadith of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]). I was hearing while I was engaged in Extolling ALLAH [S.W.T] (reciting Subhan ALLAH) constantly. He stood up before I finished my repetition of Subhan ALLAH. If I were to meet him I would have warned him in stern words that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] did not speak so quickly as you talk. Ibn Shihab (R.A) transmitted on the authority of Ibn Musayyib (R.A) that Abu Huraira (R.A) said: People say that Abu Huraira (R.A) transmits so many ahadith, whereas ALLAH [S.W.T] is the RECKONER, and they say: How is it with Muhajirs and the Ansar that they do not narrate ahadith like him (like Abu Huraira (R.A))? Abu Huraira (R.A) said: I tell you that my brothers from Ansar remained busy with their lands and my brothers Muhajirs were busy in transactions in the bazars, but I always kept myself attached to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] with bare subsistence. I remained present (in the company of the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]), whereas they had been absent. I retained in my mind (what the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] said), whereas they forgot it. One day ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: He who amongst you spreads the cloth and listens to my talk and would then press it against his chest would never forget anything heard from me. So I spread my mantle and when he had concluded his talk I then pressed it against my chest and so I never forgot after that day anything that he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said. And if these two verses would not have been revealed in the Book I would have never transmitted anything (to anybody): "Those who conceal the clear evidence and the guidance that WE revealed" (2. 159) tip to the last verse.

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying: The Ansar are my family and my trusted friends. And the people would increase in number whereas they (the Ansar) would become less and less, so appreciate the deeds of those from amongst them who do good and overlook their failings.

Since I heard three things from ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] my love for Banu Tamim is never on the decline (and these things are): I heard ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying about them that they would put up stout resistance against dajjal amongst my Ummah. And he (the narrator) said: (When) the consignment of Zakat was brought to him, ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: This is the charity of our people, and there was one slave-girl in the house of 'A'isha (R.A) and she was from the tribe of Banu Tamim; thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: Set her free, for she is from the offspring of Isma'il (P.B.U.H). The other hadith has been transmitted on the authority of Abu Huraira (R.A) with a slight variation of wording.

Abu Huraira (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying: You would find people like those of mine, the good amongst you in the Days of Ignorance would be good amongst you in the days of Islam, provided they have an understanding of it and you will find good amongst people the persons who would be averse to position of authority until it is thrust upon them, and you will find the worst amongst persons one who has double face. He comes with one face to them and with the other face to the others.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 51, Book 31: Pertaining To The Merits Of The Companions (R.A) Of The Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 6147:
Abu Burda (R.A) reported on the authority of his father:
We offered the sunset prayer along with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]. We then said: If we sit (along with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]) and observe night prayer with him it would be very good, so we sat down and he came to us and said: You are still sitting here. I said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], we observed evening prayer with you, then we said: Let us sit down and observe night prayer along with you, whereupon he said: You have done well or you have done right. He then lifted his head towards the sky and it often happened that as he lifted his head towards the sky, he said: The stars are a source of security for the sky and when the stars disappear there comes to the sky, i.e. (it meets the same fate) as it has been promised (it would plunge into darkness). And I am a source of safety and security to my companions (R.A) and when I would go away there would fall to the lot (of my companions (R.A)) as they have been promised with and my companions (R.A) are a source of security for the Ummah and as they would go there would fall to the lot of my Ummah as (its people) have been promised.

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying: Do not revile my companions (R.A), do not revile my companions (R.A). By HIM in WHOSE Hand is my life, if one amongst you would have spent as much gold as Uhud it would not amount to as much as one much on behalf of one of them or half of it.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 16, Book 41: Pertaining To Turmoil And Portents Of The Last Hour (Kitab Al-Fitan Wa Ashrat As-Sa'Ah), Number 6961:
Abu Nadra (R.A) reported:
"We were in the company of Jabir b. 'Abdulldh (R.A) that he said it may happen that the people of Iraq may not send their qafiz and dirhams (their measures of food stuff and their money). We said: Who would be responsible for it? He said: The non-Arabs would prevent them. He again said: There is the possibility that the people of Syria may not send their dinar and mudd. We said: Who would be responsible for it? He said this prevention would be made by the Romans. He (Jabir b. Abdullah (R.A)) kept quiet for a while and then reported: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] having said there would be a Caliph in the last (period) of my Ummah who would freely give handfuls of wealth to the people without counting it. I said to Abu Nadra and Abu al-'Ala (R.A): Do you mean 'Umar b. 'Abd al-Aziz (R.A)? They said: No (he would be Imam Mahdi (R.A)).

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 93: Oneness, Uniqueness of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Tawheed), Number 624:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "Your stay (in this world) in comparison to the stay of the nations preceding you, is like the period between 'Asr prayer and the sun set (in comparison to a whole day). The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted on it till midday and then they were unable to carry on. And they were given (a reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted on it till 'Asr Prayer and then they were unable to carry on, so they were given a reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then you were given the Qur'an and you acted on it till sunset, therefore you were given (a reward equal to) two Qirats each. On that, the people of the Scriptures said, 'These people (Muslims) did less work than we but they took a bigger reward.' ALLAH [S.W.T] said (to them). 'Have I done any oppression to you as regards your rights?' They said, "No." Then ALLAH [S.W.T] said, 'That is MY Blessing which I grant to whomsoever I Will.'"

"Our LORD, Forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our LORD, indeed YOU are KIND and MERCIFUL."
