the information I gave here are collected from the book and I tried to make the
Arabic pronunciations as much as right as possible, though I’ll recommend you to
learn real Arabic pronunciations rather than reading it from English text that I
provided. However, if you have problem to understand anything then please go to
the Mosque nearby and contact with the Imam just do not hesitate Insha'ALLAH it
will become easier to you.]
Wudu' (Arabic: الوضوء al-wuḍū, Chechen: Lamaz etsar, Albanian: avdes, Bosnian:
abdest, Kurdish: destnivêj, Turkish: abdest, Somali: weeso) is the Islamic act of
washing parts of the body using water. Muslims are also required to be clean before
offering the Prayer or before reciting The
HOLY QUR'AN one must be in good shape and pure condition. It is necessary
to wash the parts of the body, which are generally exposed to dirt or dust or smog.
This performance is called Ablution (Wudu').
Prophet [S.A.W.S]
said that: “Cleanliness
is half of Faith”.
(Sahih
Muslim: Chapter 4, Book 2: Purification (Kitab Al-Taharah), Number 0432)
Before we offer Salah
or recite The HOLY QUR'AN, we must first prepare ourselves.
This preparation includes making sure that we are clean from physical impurity,
and this is done by carrying out Wudu'. Wudu' is the minor purification. The major
form of purification is called Ghusl/Bath. If water is not available, the purification
can be performed with clean earth or soil, and it is called Tayammum.
"O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while
you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying or in a state of janabah,
except those passing through [a place of prayer], until you have washed [your whole
body]. And if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of
relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean
earth and wipe over your faces and your hands [with it]. Indeed, ALLAH is ever Pardoning
and Forgiving."
"O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer,
wash your faces and your forearms to the elbows and wipe over your heads and wash
your feet to the ankles. And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves.
But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving
himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth
and wipe over your faces and hands with it. ALLAH does not intend to make difficulty
for you, but HE intends to purify you and complete HIS favor upon you that you may
be grateful."

Intention (Niyat) of Obligatory (Fard) Bath (Ghusl)

لِرَفْعِ الْجَنَابَةِ
Pronunciation:
“Nawaytoul Gushlaa
Lirafi-l-Janabat”
Translation:
I intent to perform
bath for purify from impurity.
It should be pointed
out that at the start of the bath or ablution the intention must be clear that it
is for the purpose of purity and Worship. Also, a person who is performing an ablution,
partial or complete, should combine his performance with some utterances Glorifying
ALLAH [S.W.T] and asking HIM for true guidance. The forms of such utterances are
described in detail in the elaborate sources of the religion. One, however, can
say one's own best utterance if one does not know the exact wording. That is sufficient
as long as it is in the Praise of ALLAH [S.W.T] and is said with sincerity.
Some Hadith Regarding Wudu' (Ablution) and other Glad
Tidings
Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 8: Prayers, Number 429:
Narrated Jabir bin
'Abdullah (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "I
have been given five things which were not given to any amongst the Prophets (P.B.U.T)
before me. These are:
1. ALLAH [S.W.T]
made me victorious by awe (by HIS frightening my enemies) for a distance of one
month's journey.
2. The earth has
been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform
Tayammum. Therefore, my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.
3. The booty has
been made Halal (lawful) for me (and was not made so for anyone else).
4. Every Prophet
[P.B.U.T] used to be sent to his nation exclusively but I have been sent to all
mankind.
5. I have been given
the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection.)
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 138:
Narrated Nu'am Al-Mujmir
(R.A):
Once I went up the roof of the Mosque, along with
Abu Huraira (R.A). He perform ablution and said, "I heard The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
saying, "On the Day of Resurrection, my followers will be called "Al-Ghurr-ul-Muhajjalun"
from the trace of ablution and whoever can increase the area of his radiance should
do so (i.e. by performing ablution regularly).'"
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 155:
Narrated Abu Qatada
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "Whenever
anyone of you drinks water, he should not breathe in the drinking utensil, and whenever
anyone of you goes to a lavatory, he should neither touch his penis nor clean his
private parts with his right hand."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 161:
Narrated Humran (the
slave of 'Uthman (R.A)):
I saw 'Uthman bin 'Affan (R.A) asking for a tumbler
of water (and when it was brought) he poured water over his hands and washed them
thrice and then put his right hand in the water container and rinsed his mouth,
washed his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out. Then he washed his
face and forearms up to the elbows thrice, passed his wet hands over his head and
washed his feet up to the ankles thrice. Then he said, "ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle
[S.A.W.S] said 'If anyone Performs ablution like that of mine and offers a two-rak'at
prayer during which he does not think of anything else (not related to the present
prayer) then his past sins will be Forgiven." After performing the ablution
'Uthman (R.A) said, "I am going to tell you a Hadith which I would not have
told you, had I not been compelled by a certain Holy Verse (the sub narrator 'Urwa
(R.A) said: This verse is: "Verily, those who conceal the clear signs and the
guidance which we have sent down...)" (2:159). I heard The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
saying, 'If a man performs ablution perfectly and then offers the compulsory congregational
prayer, ALLAH [S.W.T] will Forgive his sins committed between that (prayer) and
the (next) prayer till he offers it.
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 163:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "If
anyone of you performs ablution he should put water in his nose and then blow it
out and whoever cleans his private parts with stones should do so with odd numbers.
And whoever wakes up from his sleep should wash his hands before putting them in
the water for ablution, because nobody knows where his hands were during sleep."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 164:
Narrated 'Abdullah
bin 'Amr (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] remained behind us on a journey.
He joined us while we were performing ablution for the 'Asr prayer which was over-due
and we were just passing wet hands over our feet (not washing them thoroughly) so
he addressed us in a loud voice saying twice or thrice, "Save your heels from
the fire."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 194:
Narrated Anas (R.A):
It was the time for prayer, and those whose houses
were near got up and went to their people (to perform ablution), and there remained
some people (sitting). Then a painted stove pot (Mikhdab) containing water was brought
to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]. The pot was small, not broad enough for one
to spread one's hand in; yet all the people performed ablution. (The sub narrator
said, "We asked Anas (R.A), 'How many persons were you?' Anas (R.A) replied
'We were eighty or more"). (It was one of the miracles of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle
[S.A.W.S]).
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 201:
Narrated 'Abdullah
bin 'Umar (R.A):
Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (R.A) said, "The Prophet
[S.A.W.S] passed wet hands over his Khuffs." 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (R.A) asked
Umar (R.A) about it. 'Umar (R.A) replied in the affirmative and added, "Whenever
Sa'd (R.A) narrates a Hadith from The Prophet [S.A.W.S], there is no need to ask
anyone else about it."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 211:
Narrated 'Aisha (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "If
anyone of you feels drowsy while praying he should go to bed (sleep) till his slumber
is over because in praying while drowsy one does not know whether one is asking
for forgiveness or for a bad thing for oneself."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 215:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas
(R.A):
Once The Prophet [S.A.W.S], while passing through
one of the grave-yards of Medina or Mecca heard the voices of
two persons who were being tortured in their graves. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said,
"These two persons are being tortured not for a major sin (to avoid)."
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then added, "Yes! (they are being tortured for a major
sin). Indeed, one of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine while
the other used to go about with calumnies (to make enmity between friends). The
Prophet [S.A.W.S] then asked for a green leaf of a date-palm tree, broke it into
two pieces and put one on each grave. On being asked why he had done so, he replied,
"I hope that their torture might be lessened, till these get dried."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 4: Ablution, Number 239:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "We
(Muslims) are the last (people to come in the world) but (will be) the foremost
(on the Day of Resurrection)." The same narrator told that The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
had said, "You should not pass urine in stagnant water which is not flowing
then (you may need to) wash in it."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 7: Rubbing Hands and Feet with Dust, Number 340:
Narrated 'Imran (R.A):
Once we were traveling with The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
and we carried on traveling till the last part of the night and then we (halted
at a place) and slept (deeply). There is nothing sweeter than sleep for a traveler
in the last part of the night. So it was only the heat of the sun that made us to
wake up and the first to wake up was so and so, then so and so and then so and so
(the narrator 'Auf (R.A) said that Abu Raja' (R.A) had told him their names but
he had forgotten them) and the fourth person to wake up was 'Umar bin Al-Khattab
(R.A). And whenever The Prophet [S.A.W.S] used to sleep, nobody would wake up him
till he himself used to get up as we did not know what was happening (being revealed)
to him in his sleep. So, 'Umar (R.A) got up and saw the condition of the people,
and he was a strict man, so he said, "ALLAHU Akbar" and raised his voice
with Takbir, and kept on saying loudly till the Prophet [S.A.W.S] got up because
of it. When he got up, the people informed him about what had happened to them.
He said, "There is no harm (or it will not be harmful). Depart!" So they
departed from that place, and after covering some distance The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
stopped and asked for some water to perform the ablution. So he performed the ablution
and the call for the prayer was pronounced and he led the people in prayer. After
he finished from the prayer, he saw a man sitting aloof who had not prayed with
the people. He asked, "O so and so! What has prevented you from praying with
us?" He replied, "I am Junub and there is no water. " The Prophet
[S.A.W.S] said, "Perform Tayammum with (clean) earth and that is sufficient
for you." Then the Prophet [S.A.W.S] proceeded on and the people complained
to him of thirst. Thereupon he got down and called a person (the narrator 'Auf (R.A)
added that Abu Raja' (R.A) had named him but he had forgotten) and 'Ali (R.A), and
ordered them to go and bring water. So they went in search of water and met a woman
who was sitting on her camel between two bags of water. They asked, "Where
can we find water?" She replied, "I was there (at the place of water)
this hour yesterday and my people are behind me." They requested her to accompany
them. She asked, "Where?" They said, "To ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle
[S.A.W.S]." She said, "Do you mean the man who is called the Sabi, (with
a new religion)?" They replied, "Yes, the same person. So come along."
They brought her to The Prophet [S.A.W.S] and narrated the whole story. He said,
"Help her to dismount." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] asked for a pot, then he
opened the mouths of the bags and poured some water into the pot. Then he closed
the big openings of the bags and opened the small ones and the people were called
upon to drink and water their animals. So they all watered their animals and they
(too) all quenched their thirst and also gave water to others and last of all The
Prophet [S.A.W.S] gave a pot full of water to the person who was Junub and told
him to pour it over his body. The woman was standing and watching all that which
they were doing with her water. By ALLAH [S.W.T], when her water bags were returned
the looked like as if they were more full (of water) than they had been before (Miracle
of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]). Then The Prophet [S.A.W.S] ordered us to
collect something for her; so dates, flour and Sawiq were collected which amounted
to a good meal that was put in a piece of cloth. She was helped to ride on her camel
and that cloth full of food-stuff was also placed in front of her and then the Prophet
[S.A.W.S] said to her, "We have not taken your water but ALLAH [S.W.T] has
given water to us." She returned home late. Her relatives asked her: "O
so and so what has delayed you?" She said, "A strange thing! Two men met
me and took me to the man who is called the Sabi' and he did such and such a thing.
By ALLAH [S.W.T], he is either the greatest magician between this and this (gesturing
with her index and middle fingers raising them towards the sky indicating the heaven
and the earth) or he is ALLAH [S.W.T]’s true Apostle." Afterwards the Muslims
used to attack the pagans around her abode but never touched her village. One day
she said to her people, "I think that these people leave you purposely. Have
you got any inclination to Islam?" They obeyed her and all of them embraced
Islam. Abu 'Abdullah (R.A) said: The word Saba'a means "The one who has deserted
his old religion and embraced a new religion." Abul 'Ailya (R.A) said, "The
Sabis are a sect of people of the Scripture who recite the Book of Psalms."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 10: Times of the Prayers, Number 569:
Narrated 'Abdullah
bin Abi Qatada (R.A):
My father said, "One night we were traveling
with the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and some people said, 'We wish that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle
[S.A.W.S] would take a rest along with us during the last hours of the night.' He
said, 'I am afraid that you will sleep and miss the (Fajr) prayer.' Bilal (R.A)
said, 'I will make you get up.' So all slept and Bilal (R.A) rested his back against
his Rahila and he too was overwhelmed (by sleep) and slept. The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
got up when the edge of the sun had risen and said, 'O Bilal! What about your statement?'
He replied, 'I have never slept such a sleep.' The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, 'ALLAH
[S.W.T] captured your souls when HE wished, and released them when HE wished. O
Bilal! Get up and pronounce the Adhan for the prayer.' The Prophet [S.A.W.S] performed
ablution and when the sun came up and became bright, he stood up and prayed."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 11: Call to Prayers (Adhaan), Number 620:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "The
reward of the prayer offered by a person in congregation is twenty five times greater
than that of the prayer offered in one's house or in the market (alone). And this
is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and then proceeds to the
Mosque with the sole intention of praying, then for every step he takes towards
the Mosque, he is upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off (crossed
out) from his accounts (of deeds). When he offers his prayer, the Angels (P.B.U.T)
keep on asking ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Blessings and ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Forgiveness for him
as long as he is (staying) at his Musalla. They say, 'O ALLAH! Bestow YOUR Blessings
upon him, be Merciful and Kind to him.' And one is regarded in prayer as long as
one is waiting for the prayer."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 2, Book 13: Friday Prayer, Number 3:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar
(R.A):
While Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A) was standing and
delivering the sermon on a Friday, one of the Companions (R.A) of the Prophet [S.A.W.S],
who was one of the foremost Muhajirs (emigrants) came. 'Umar (R.A) said to him,
"What is the time now?" He replied, "I was busy and could not go
back to my house till I heard the Adhan. I did not perform more than the ablution."
Thereupon 'Umar (R.A) said to him, "Did you perform only the ablution although
you know that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] used to order us to take a bath
(on Fridays)?"
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 2, Book 13: Friday Prayer, Number 4:
Narrated Abu Said
Al-Khudri (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "The
taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male (Muslim) who has attained
the age of puberty."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 2, Book 13: Friday Prayer, Number 6:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "Any
person who takes a bath on Friday like the bath of Janaba and then goes for the
prayer (in the first hour i.e. early), it is as if he had sacrificed a camel (in
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause); and whoever goes in the second hour it is as if he had sacrificed
a cow; and whoever goes in the third hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed a
horned ram; and if one goes in the fourth hour, then it is as if he had sacrificed
a hen; and whoever goes in the fifth hour then it is as if he had offered an egg.
When the Imam comes out (i.e. starts delivering the Khutba), the Angels (P.B.U.T)
present themselves to listen to the Khutba."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 2, Book 13: Friday Prayer, Number 12:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "If
I had not found it hard for my followers or the people, I would have ordered them
to clean their teeth with Siwak for every prayer."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 2, Book 21: Prayer at Night (Tahajjud), Number 243:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "satan
puts three knots at the back of the head of any of you if he is asleep. On every
knot he reads and exhales the following words, 'The night is long, so stay asleep.'
When one wakes up and remembers ALLAH [S.W.T], one knot is undone; and when one
performs ablution, the second knot is undone, and when one prays the third knot
is undone and one gets up energetic with a good heart in the morning; otherwise
one gets up lazy and with a mischievous heart."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 4, Book 54: Beginning of Creation, Number 452:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "As long as any-one
of you is waiting for the prayer, he is considered to be praying actually, and the
Angels (P.B.U.T) say, 'O ALLAH! Be Merciful to him and Forgive him', (and go on
saying so) unless he leaves his place of praying or passes wind (i.e. breaks his
ablution)."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 4, Book 54: Beginning of Creation, Number 465:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
While we were in the company of The Prophet [S.A.W.S],
he said, "While I was asleep, I saw myself in Paradise and there I beheld a
woman making ablution beside a palace, I asked, to whom does this palace belong?
They said, to 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A).' Then I remembered 'Umar (R.A)'s Ghaira
(concerning women), and so I quickly went away from that palace." (When 'Umar
(R.A) heard this from The Prophet [S.A.W.S]), he wept and said, "Do you think
it is likely that I feel Ghaira because of you, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?"

Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "If anyone of
you rouses from sleep and performs the ablution, he should wash his nose by putting
water in it and then blowing it out thrice, because satan has stayed in the upper
part of his nose all the night."

scale, and Subhan ALLAH (Glory be to ALLAH) and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to ALLAH)
fill up what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity
is proof (of one's faith) and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a
proof on your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell
themselves, thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.
Sahih Muslim:

performs ablution.

and this is how he performed the ablution. He washed his hands thrice. He then rinsed
his mouth and cleaned his nose with water (three times). He then washed his face
three times, then washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then washed
his left arm like that, then wiped his head; then washed his right foot up to the
ankle three times, then washed his left foot like that, and then said: I saw the
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] perform ablution like this ablution of mine.
Then the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: He who performs ablution like
this ablution of mine and then stood up (for prayer) and offered two rak'ahs of
prayer without allowing his thoughts to be distracted, all his previous sins are
expiated. Ibn Shihab (R.A) said: Our scholars remarked: This is the most complete
of the ablutions performed for prayer.

to him at the time of afternoon prayer. So the ('Uthman (R.A)) called for the ablution
water and performed ablution and then said: By ALLAH [S.W.T], I am narrating to
you a hadith. If there were not a Verse in the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T], I would have
never narrated it to you. I heard ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] say: If a
Muslim performs ablution and does it well and offers prayer, all his (sins) during
the period from one prayer to another would be pardoned by ALLAH [S.W.T].

of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] a hadith. I do not know what these are but (I know this
fact) that I saw the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] perform ablution like
this ablution of mine and then he said: He who performed ablution like this, all
his previous sins would be expiated and his prayer and going towards the Mosque
would have an extra reward. In the tradition narrated by Ibn 'Abda (R.A) (the words

of water. And Uthman (R.A) said: The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] at the
time of our returning from our prayer told us (certain things pertaining to purification).
Mis'ar (R.A) said: I find that it was afternoon prayer. He said: I do not know whether
I should tell you a thing or keep quiet. We said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S],
tell us if it is good and if it is otherwise, ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S]
know better. Upon this he said: A Muslim who purifies (himself) and completes purification
as enjoined upon him by ALLAH [S.W.T] and then offers the prayers, that will be
expiations (of his sins he committed) between these (prayers).

(their intervals) provided one shuns the major sins.

I found ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] stand and address the people. I heard
these words of his: If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays
two rak'ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said: What a fine thing
is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this.
When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar (R.A) who said: I see that you have
just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes
the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but ALLAH and that
Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is the servant of ALLAH and HIS Messenger, the eight gates of
Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

water, or with the last drop of water; when he washes his hands, every sin they
wrought will be effaced from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of

its water is whiter than ice and sweeter than the honey diluted with milk, and its
cups are more numerous than the numbers of the stars. Verily I shall prevent the
(faithless) people there from just as a man prevents the camels of the people from
his fountain. They said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], will you recognize
us on that day? He said: Yes, you will have distinctive marks that nobody among

said: Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T], would you recognize us? He replied: Yes, you would
have a mark which other people will not have. You would come to me with a white
blaze on your foreheads and white marks on your feet because of the traces of ablution.
A group among you would be prevented from coming to me, and they would not meet
me, and I would say: O my LORD, they are my companions. Upon this an Angel (P.B.U.H)

They (the hearers (R.A)) said: Arn't we your brothers-Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S]? He said: You are my companions (R.A), and our brothers are those who
have, so far, not come into the world. They said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S],
how would you recognize those persons of your Ummah who have not yet been born?
He said: Supposing a man had horses with white blazes on fore-heads and legs among
horses which were all black, tell me, would he not recognize his own horses? They
said: Certainly. Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]. He said: They would come
with white faces and arms and legs owing to ablution, and I would arrive at the
Cistern before them. Some people would be driven away from my Cistern as the stray
camel is driven away. I would call out. Come, come. Then it would be said (to me):
