Selected Hadith Regarding Saum/Sawm/Fast/Roja
Sahih Muslim: Chapter 13, Book 32: Virtue, Good Manners And Joining Of The
Ties Of Relationship, Number 6246:
Abu Dharr (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying that
ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and GLORIOUS, said: MY servants, I have made oppression
unlawful for ME and unlawful for you, so do not commit oppression against one another.
MY servants, all of you are liable to err except one whom I guide on the right path,
so seek right guidance from ME so that I should direct you to the right path. O
MY servants, all of you are hungry (needy) except one whom I feed, so beg food from
ME, so that I may give that to you. O MY servants, all of you are naked (need clothes)
except one whom I provide garments, so beg clothes from ME, so that I should clothe
you. O MY servants, you commit error night and day and I am there to pardon your
sins, so beg pardon from ME, so that I should grant you pardon. O MY servants, you
can neither do ME any harm nor can you do ME any good. O MY servants, even if the
first amongst you and the last amongst you and even the whole of human race of yours,
and that of jinns even, become (equal in) ALLAH [S.W.T] conscious like the heart
of a single person amongst you, nothing would add to MY Power. O MY servants, even
if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race of yours
and that of the jinns too in unison become the most wicked (all beating) like the
heart of a single person, it would cause no loss to MY Power. O MY servants, even
if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race of yours
and that of jinns also all stand in one plain ground and you ask ME and I confer
upon every person what he asks for, it would not in any way, cause any loss to ME
(even less) than that which is caused to the ocean by dipping the needle in it.
MY servants, these for you I shall reward you for then, so he who deeds of yours
which I am recording finds good should Praise ALLAH and he who does not find that
should not blame anyone but his ownself. Sa'id (R.A) said: That when Abu Idris Khaulini
(R.A) narrated this hadith he knelt upon his knees.
Sahih Bukhari:

(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "When ALLAH [S.W.T]
Created the Creation, HE wrote in HIS Book--and HE wrote (that) about HIMSELF, and

Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 8, Book 75: Invocations, Number 417:

ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "ALLAH
[S.W.T] has some Angels (P.B.U.T) who look for those who celebrate the Praises of
ALLAH [S.W.T] on the roads and paths. And when they find some people celebrating
the Praises of ALLAH [S.W.T], they call each other, saying, "Come to the object
of your pursuit.'" He added, "Then the Angels (P.B.U.T) encircle them
with their wings up to the sky of the world." He added. "(after those
people celebrated the Praises of ALLAH [S.W.T], and the Angels (P.B.U.T) go back),
their LORD, asks them (those Angels (P.B.U.T)) - though HE knows better than them----'What
do MY slaves say?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'they say: Subhan ALLAH, ALLAHU Akbar,
and Alham-du-lillah, ALLAH [S.W.T] then says 'Did they see ME?' The Angels (P.B.U.T)
reply, 'No! By ALLAH [S.W.T], they didn't see YOU.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says, How it would
have been if they saw ME?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'If they saw YOU, they would
Worship YOU more devoutly and celebrate YOUR Glory more deeply, and declare YOUR
freedom from any resemblance to anything more often.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says (to the
Angels (P.B.U.T)), 'What do they ask ME for?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'They
ask YOU for Paradise.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says (to the Angels (P.B.U.T)), 'Did they see
it?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) say, 'No! By ALLAH [S.W.T], O LORD! They did not see it.'
ALLAH [S.W.T] says, How it would have been if they saw it?' The Angels (P.B.U.T)
say, 'If they saw it, they would have greater covetousness for it and would seek
it with greater zeal and would have greater desire for it.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says,
'From what do they seek refuge?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'They seek refuge from
the (Hell) Fire.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says, 'Did they see it?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) say,
'No! By ALLAH [S.W.T], O LORD! They did not see it.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says, How it
would have been if they saw it?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) say, 'If they saw it they
would flee from it with the extreme fleeing and would have extreme fear from it.'
Then ALLAH [S.W.T] says, 'I make you witnesses that I have Forgiven them."'
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] added, "One of the Angels (P.B.U.T) would
say, 'There was so-and-so amongst them, and he was not one of them, but he had just
come for some need.' ALLAH [S.W.T] would say, 'These are those people whose companions
will not be reduced to misery.'"

and said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] ordered (the appointed Angels (P.B.U.T) over you)
that the good and the bad deeds be written, and HE then showed (the way) how (to
write). If somebody intends to do a good deed and he does not do it, then ALLAH
[S.W.T] will write for him a full good deed (in his account with HIM); and if he
intends to do a good deed and actually did it, then ALLAH [S.W.T] will write for
him (in his account with HIM) (its reward equal) from ten to seven hundred times
to many more times: and if somebody intended to do a bad deed and he does not do
it, then ALLAH [S.W.T] will write a full good deed (in his account with HIM), and
if he intended to do it (a bad deed) and actually did it, then ALLAH [S.W.T] will
write one bad deed (in his account)."

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "ALLAH
[S.W.T] said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshiper
of MINE. And the most beloved things with which MY slave comes nearer to ME, is
what I have enjoined upon him; and MY slave keeps on coming closer to ME through
performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till
I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense
of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with
which he walks; and if he asks ME, I will give him, and if he asks MY Protection
(Refuge), I will Protect him; (i.e. give him MY Refuge) and I do not hesitate to
do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death,
and I hate to disappoint him."

says: 'I am just as MY slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he
thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if he remembers ME. If he remembers ME
in himself, I too, remember him in MYSELF; and if he remembers ME in a group of
people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one
span nearer to ME, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer
to ME, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to
ME walking, I go to him running.'"
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 9, Book 93: Oneness, Uniqueness of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Tawheed), Number 624:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar
(R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "Your
stay (in this world) in comparison to the stay of the nations preceding you, is
like the period between 'Asr prayer and the sun set (in comparison to a whole day).
The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted on it till midday and
then they were unable to carry on. And they were given (a reward equal to) one Qirat
each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted on it till
'Asr Prayer and then they were unable to carry on, so they were given a reward equal
to) one Qirat each. Then you were given the Qur'an and you acted on it till sunset,
therefore you were given (a reward equal to) two Qirats each. On that, the people
of the Scriptures said, 'These people (Muslims) did less work than we but they took
a bigger reward.' ALLAH [S.W.T] said (to them). 'Have I done any oppression to you
as regards your rights?' They said, "No." Then ALLAH [S.W.T] said, 'That
is MY Blessing which I grant to whomsoever I Will.'"

person and he loves him Only for ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Sake.

The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
observed: You shall not enter Paradise so long as you do not affirm belief (in
all those things which are the articles of faith) and you will not believe as
long as you do not love one another. Should I not direct you to a thing which,
if you do, will foster love amongst you: (i.e.) give currency to (the practice
of paying salutation to one another by saying: as-salamu alaikum.

That ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said:
Strange are the ways of a believer for there is good in every affair of his and
this is not the case with anyone else except in the case of a believer for if he
has an occasion to feel delight, he thanks (ALLAH [S.W.T]), thus there is a good
for him in it, and if he gets into trouble and shows resignation (and endures it
patiently), there is a good for him in it.

1. To testify
that none has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH [S.W.T] and Muhammad
[S.A.W.S] is ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle.
2. To offer the
(compulsory congregational) Prayers dutifully and perfectly.
3. To pay Zakat
(i.e. obligatory charity).
4. To perform
Hajj (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca ).
5. To observe
Fast during the month of Ramadan.
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 2: Belief, Number 47:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
One day while the Prophet [S.A.W.S] was sitting
in the company of some people, (The Angel) Gabriel (P.B.U.H) came and asked, "What
is faith?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied, 'Faith is to believe
in ALLAH [S.W.T], HIS Angels (P.B.U.T), (the) meeting with HIM, HIS Apostles (P.B.U.T),
and to believe in Resurrection." Then he further asked, "What is Islam?"
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied, "To Worship ALLAH [S.W.T] Alone
and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat)
and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." Then he further asked, "What
is Ihsan (perfection)?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied, "To
Worship ALLAH [S.W.T] as if you see HIM, and if you cannot achieve this state of
devotion then you must consider that HE is looking at you." Then he further
asked, "When will the Hour be established?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]
replied, "The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will
inform you about its portents.
1. When a slave (lady)
gives birth to her master.
2. When the shepherds
of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of
higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except ALLAH
[S.W.T]. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then recited: "Verily, with ALLAH (Alone) is
the Knowledge of the Hour--." (31.34) Then that man (Gabriel (P.B.U.H)) left
and the Prophet [S.A.W.S] asked his companions (R.A) to call him back, but they
could not see him. Then the Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "That was Gabriel (P.B.U.H)
who came to teach the people their religion." Abu 'Abdullah (R.A) said: He
(the Prophet [S.A.W.S]) considered all that as a part of faith.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 4, Book 2: Purification (Kitab Al-Taharah), Number 0451:
'Uqba b. 'Amir (R.A)
reported:
We were entrusted with the task of tending the
camels. On my turn when I came back in the evening after grazing them in the pastures,
I found ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Messenger [S.A.W.S] stand and address the people. I heard
these words of his: If any Muslim performs ablution well, then stands and prays
two rak'ahs setting about them with his heart as well as his face, Paradise would be guaranteed to him. I said: What a fine thing
is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this.
When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar (R.A) who said: I see that you have
just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes
the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but ALLAH and that
Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is the servant of ALLAH and HIS Messenger, the eight gates of
Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 131, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 1756:
‘Uqba b. ‘Amir (R.A)
reported:
When we were in Suffa, the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] came out and said: Which of you would like to go out every morning to
Buthan or al-’Aqiq and bring two large she camels without being guilty of sin or
without severing the ties of kinship? We said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S],
we would like to do it. Upon this he said: Does not one of you go out in the morning
to the Mosque and teach or recite two verses from the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T], the
MAJESTIC and GLORIOUS? That is better for him than two she camels, and three verses
are better (than three she camels), and four verses are better for him than four
(she camels), and to on their number in camels.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 132, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 1757:
Abu Umama (R.A) said
he heard:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] say: Recite
the Qur’an, for on the Day of Resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those
who recite It. Recite the two bright ones, Surah al-Baqara and Surah Al ‘Imran,
for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two
flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara,
for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief,
and the magicians cannot confront it. (Mu’awiya (R.A) said: It has been conveyed
to me that here Batala means magicians.)
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 133, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 1760:
Ibn ‘Abbas (R.A)
reported:
That while Gabriel (P.B.U.H) was sitting with the
Apostle [S.A.W.S] he heard a creaking sound above him. He lifted his head and said:
This as a gate opened in heaven today which had never been opened before. Then when
an Angel (P.B.U.H) descended through it, he said: This is an Angel (P.B.U.H) who
came down to the earth who had never come down before. He greeted and said: Rejoice
in two lights given to you which have not been given to any Prophet (P.B.U.T) before
you: Falihat al-Kitab (1.1-7) and the concluding verses of Suarah al-Baqara (2.286).
You will never recite a letter from them for which you will not be given (a reward).
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 134, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 1768:
Ubayy b. Ka’b (R.A)
said:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: O
Abu’l-Mundhir (R.A), do you know the verse from the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] which,
according to you, is the greatest? I said: ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S]
know best. He again said: Abu’l-Mundhir (R.A), do you know the verse from the Book
of ALLAH [S.W.T] which, according to you, is the greatest? I said: "ALLAH,
there is no god but HE, the LIVING, the ETERNAL." (Ayat Al-Kursi (2.255)) Thereupon
he struck me on my breast and said: May knowledge be pleasant for you, O Abu’l-Mundhir
(R.A)!

said, "I was praying." He said, "Didn't ALLAH [S.W.T]
said":- "O you who believe, give your response to ALLAH (by obeying
HIM) and to HIS Apostle." (8.24) Then he added, "Shall I tell you the
most superior Sura in the Qur'an before I go out of the Mosque?" When the
Prophet [S.A.W.S] intended to go out (of the Mosque), I reminded him and he
said, "That is: "Alhamdu-lillahi Rabbil-'Alamin
(Surat-al-Fatiha)" which is the seven oft repeated verses (Al-Mathani) and
the Grand Qur’an which has been given to me."

'Say (O Muhammad): "HE is ALLAH, the ONE." (112.1) And he recited it repeatedly.

as if he considered that the recitation of that Surah by itself was not enough.
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "By HIM in WHOSE Hand my life is, it
is equal to one-third of the Qur’an."

under the command of a man who used to lead his companions in the prayers and
would finish his recitation with (the Surah 112): 'Say (O Muhammad): "HE
is ALLAH, the ONE."' (112.1) When they returned (from the battle), they
mentioned that to the Prophet [S.A.W.S]. He said (to them), "Ask him why
he does so." They asked him and he said, "I do so because it mentions
the Qualities of the BENEFICENT and I love to recite it (in my prayer)."
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said (to them), "Tell him that ALLAH [S.W.T] loves
him."

Apostle, and that is (what is implied) by the words of ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED:
"ALLAH keeps steadfast those who believe with firm word in this world and in
the Hereafter." (14.27)
[Sunan Abi Dawud:
Chapter 454, Book 5: Voluntary Prayers, Hadith 48 & Jami' at-Tirmidhi: Chapter
19, Book 3: The Book on Al-Witr, Hadith 31]:
Our Beloved Prophet [S.A.W.S] said to his uncle
Abbas (R.A): Oh uncle shall I not give you! Shall I not grant you! Shall I not award
you! Shall I not do mercy on you! When you do ten things ALLAH [S.W.T] will forgive
your sins: of the future and of the past; new and old; those you have forgotten
and those you did knowingly; big and small; hidden and revealed. Then Prophet [S.A.W.S]
explained the taught the way to pray Salatul Tasbih and then said if you can pray
this salah once a day, if you can not pray once a day then every Friday, and even
if this is not possible then once a month and even if this is not possible then

Rabi’a b. Ka’b (R.A)
said:
I was with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]
one night. And I brought him water and what he required. He said to me: Ask (anything
you like). I said: I ask your company in Paradise .
He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Or anything else besides it. I said: That
is all (what I require). He said: Then help me to achieve this for you by devoting
yourself often to prostration.

Volume 1, Book 12: Characteristics of Prayer, Number 804:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
Some poor people came to the Prophet [S.A.W.S]
and said, "The wealthy people will get higher grades and will have permanent
enjoyment and they pray like us and fast as we do. They have more money by which
they perform the Hajj, and 'Umra; fight and struggle in ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Cause and
give in charity." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Shall I not tell you a
thing upon which if you acted you would catch up with those who have surpassed you?
Nobody would overtake you and you would be better than the people amongst whom you
live except those who would do the same. Say, "Subhan-ALLAH", "Alhamdu-lillah"
and "ALLAHU Akbar" thirty three times each after every (compulsory) prayer."
We differed and some of us said that we should say, "Subhan-ALLAH" thirty
three times and "Alhamdu lillah" thirty three times and "ALLAHU Akbar"
thirty four times. I went to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] who said, "Say, "Subhan-ALLAH"
and "Alhamdu-lillah" and "ALLAHU Akbar" all together for thirty
three times."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 8, Book 75: Invocations, Number 330:
Narrated 'Ali (R.A):
Fatima (R.A) complained about the blisters on her
hand because of using a mill-stone. She went to ask the Prophet [S.A.W.S] for servant,
but she did not find him (at home) and had to inform 'Aisha (R.A) of her need. When
he came, 'Aisha (R.A) informed him about it. Ali (R.A) added: The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
came to us when we had gone to our beds. When I was going to get up, he said, "'Stay
in your places," and sat between us, till I felt the coolness of the feet on
my chest. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then said, "Shall I not tell you of a thing
which is better for you than a servant? When you (both) go to your beds, say 'ALLAHU
Akbar' thirty-four times, and 'Subhan ALLAH' thirty-three times, 'Alhamdu 'illah'
thirty-three times, for that is better for you than a servant." Ibn Sirin (R.A)
said, "Subhan ALLAH' (is to be said for) thirty-four times."

is half of faith and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to ALLAH) fills the scale, and Subhan
ALLAH (Glory be to ALLAH) and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to ALLAH) fill up what
is between the heavens and the earth, and Prayer is a light, and Charity is proof
(of one's faith) and Endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a proof on
your behalf or against you. All men go out early in the morning and sell themselves,
thereby setting themselves free or destroying themselves.

Abu Dharr (R.A) reported:
Some of the people from among the Companions (R.A)
of the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said to him: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S], the rich have taken away (air the) reward. They observe prayer as we
do; they keep the fasts as we keep, and they give sadaqa out of their surplus riches.
Upon this he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Has ALLAH [S.W.T] not prescribed
for you (a course) by following which you can (also) do sadaqa? In every declaration
of the Glorification of ALLAH [S.W.T] (i.e. saying Subhan ALLAH) there is a sadaqa,
and every Takbir (i.e. saying ALLAHU Akbar) is a sadaqa, and every Praise of HIS
(saying al-Hamdu Lillah) is a sadaqa and every declaration that HE is ONE (La illha
ill-ALLAH) is a sadaqa, and enjoining of good is a sadaqa, and forbidding of that
which is evil is a sadaqa, and in man's sexual intercourse (with his wife,) there
is a sadaqa. They (the Companions (R.A)) said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S],
is there reward for him who satisfies his sexual passion among us? He said: Tell
me, if he were to devote it to something forbidden, would it not be a sin on his
part? Similarly, if he were to devote it to something lawful, he should have a reward.

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying:
Every one of the children of Adam (P.B.U.H) has been created with three hundred
and sixty joints; so he who declares the Glory of ALLAH [S.W.T], Praises ALLAH [S.W.T],
declares ALLAH [S.W.T] to be ONE, Glorifies ALLAH [S.W.T], and seeks Forgiveness
from ALLAH [S.W.T], and removes stone, or thorn, or bone from people's path, and
enjoins what is good and forbids from evil, to the number of those three hundred

wa huwa 'ala kulli shai'in qadir," one hundred times will get the same reward
as given for manumitting ten slaves; and one hundred good deeds will be written
in his accounts, and one hundred sins will be deducted from his accounts, and it
(his saying) will be a shield for him from satan on that day till night, and nobody
will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he."

He who uttered these words: "There is no god but ALLAH, the ONE, having no
partner with HIM. Sovereignty belongs to HIM and all the Praise is due to HIM, and
HE is POTENT over everything" one hundred times every day there is a reward
of emancipating ten slaves for him, and there are recorded hundred virtues to his
credit, and hundred vices are blotted out from his scroll, and that is a safeguard
for him against the satan on that day till evening and no one brings anything more
excellent than this, except one who has done more than this (who utters these words
more than one hundred times and does more good acts) and he who utters: "Hallowed
be ALLAH and all Praise is due to HIM," one hundred times a day, his sins are
obliterated even if they are equal to the extent of the foam of the ocean.
Sahih Bukhari:

"Hallowed be ALLAH, the GREAT."
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 8, Book 77: Divine Will (Al-Qadar), Number 607:
Narrated Abu Musa
(R.A):
While we were with ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]
in a holy battle, we never went up a hill or reached its peak or went down a valley
but raised our voices with Takbir. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] came close
to us and said, "O people! Don't exert yourselves, for you do not call a deaf
or an absent one, but you call the ALL-LISTENER, the ALL-SEER." The Prophet
[S.A.W.S] then said, "O 'Abdullah bin Qais (R.A)! Shall I teach you a sentence
which is from the treasures of Paradise ? (It is):
'La haula wala quwata illa billah. (There is neither might nor power except with
ALLAH)."
Sahih Bukhari:

[S.W.T]) may utter a word which pleases ALLAH [S.W.T] without giving it much importance,
and because of that ALLAH [S.W.T] will raise him to degrees (of reward); a slave
(of ALLAH [S.W.T]) may utter a word (carelessly) which displeases ALLAH [S.W.T]
without thinking of its gravity and because of that he will be thrown into the Hell-Fire."

Verily the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] recited
the words of ALLAH [S.W.T], the GREAT and GLORIOUS, that Ibrahim (P.B.U.H) uttered.
My LORD! Lo! They have led many of mankind astray:" But whoso followeth me,
he verily is of me" (al-Qur'an, 14.36) and Jesus (P.B.U.H) said:" If THOU
punisheth them, Lo! They are THY slaves, and if THOU forgiveth them-verily THOU
art the MIGHTY, the WISE" (al-Qur'an, 5.118). Then he raised his hands and
said: O LORD, my Ummah, my Ummah, and wept; so ALLAH [S.W.T] the HIGH and the EXALTED
said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] (Though your LORD knows it fully
well) and ask him: What makes thee weep? So Gabriel (P.B.U.H) came to him and asked
him, and the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] informed him what he had said
(Though ALLAH [S.W.T] knew it fully well). Upon this ALLAH [S.W.T] said: O Gabriel
(P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] and say: Verily WE will please thee with regard
to your Ummah and would not displease thee.

and then believed in the Prophet Muhammad [S.A.W.S] (i.e. has embraced Islam).
2. A slave who discharges
his duties to ALLAH [S.W.T] and his master.
3. A master of a

I will come to the gate of Paradise on the Day
of Resurrection and would seek its opening and the Keeper (P.B.U.H) would say: Who
art thou? I would say: Muhammad [S.A.W.S]. He would then say: It is for thee that
I have been ordered, and not to open it for anyone before thee.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 84, Book 1: Faith (Kitab Al Iman), Number 0386:
Abu Huraira (R.A)
reported:
The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said:
There is for every Apostle (P.B.U.T) a prayer, and I intend (if ALLAH so willed)
that I would reserve my prayer for the intercession of my Ummah on the Day of Resurrection.

ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said,
"My similitude in comparison with the other Prophets (P.B.U.T) before me,
is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a
place of one brick in a corner. The people go about it and wonder at its
beauty, but say: 'Would that this brick be put in its place!' So I am that
brick, and I am the last of the Prophets (P.B.U.T)."

said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except
that I love ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S]." The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
said, "You will be with those whom you love." We had never been so glad
as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] (i.e. "You will
be with those whom you love.") Therefore, I love the Prophet [S.A.W.S], Abu
Bakr and 'Umar (R.A), and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for
them though my deeds are not similar to theirs.

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "O Abu Huraira (R.A)! I have thought that none
will ask me about this Hadith before you, as I know your longing for the (learning
of) Hadiths. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection
will be the one who said, 'None has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH,' sincerely
from the bottom of his heart."

other in the prayer. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] heard it and said:--"Say,
'At-tahiyyatu lil-lahi was-salawatu wat-taiyibatu. Assalamu 'Alaika aiyuha-n-Nabiyu
wa-rahmatu-l-lahi wa-barakatuhu. Assalamu alaina wa- 'ala 'ibadi-l-lahi as-salihin. Ashhadu an

are for ALLAH and all the Prayers and all the Good things (are for ALLAH). Peace
be on you, O Prophet, and ALLAH's Mercy and Blessings (are on you). And Peace be
on us and on the good (pious) worshipers of ALLAH. I testify that none has the right
to be Worshiped but ALLAH and that Muhammad is HIS slave and Apostle.) So, when
you have said this, then you have surely sent the greetings to every good (pious)
worshiper of ALLAH [S.W.T], whether he be in the Heaven or on the Earth."

has taught us how to salute you (in the prayer)?' He said, 'Say: O ALLAH! Send YOUR
Mercy on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, as YOU sent YOUR Mercy on Abraham
and on the family of Abraham, for YOU are the MOST PRAISEWORTHY, the MOST GLORIOUS.

mother." The man said. "Who is next?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said,
"Your mother." The man further said, "Who is next?" The Prophet

He replied, "Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself
and his property in danger (for ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Sake) and does not return with any
of those things."

ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and MAJESTIC said: Every act of the son of Adam (P.B.U.H)
is for him, except fasting. It is (exclusively) meant for ME and I (Alone) will
reward it. Fasting is a shield. When any one of you is fasting on a day, he should
neither indulge in obscene language, nor raise the voice; or if anyone reviles him
or tries to quarrel with him he should say: I am a person fasting. By HIM, in WHOSE
Hand is the life of Muhammad [S.A.W.S], the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter
to ALLAH [S.W.T] on the Day of Judgment than the fragrance of musk. The one who
fasts has two (occasions) of joy, one when he breaks the fast he is glad with the
breaking of (the fast) and one when he meets his LORD he is glad with his fast.

not seen and the ear has not heard and no human heart has ever perceived them. He
then recited this verse: "They forsake (their) beds, calling upon their LORD

as saying: Avoid that which I forbid you to do and do that which I command you to
do to the best of your capacity. Verily the people before you went to their doom
because they had put too many questions to their Prophets (P.B.U.T) and then disagreed
with their teachings.

great destructive sins." The people enquire, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle
[S.A.W.S]! What are they? "He said, "To join others in Worship along with
ALLAH [S.W.T], to practice sorcery, to kill the life which ALLAH [S.W.T] has forbidden
except for a just cause (according to Islamic law), to eat up Riba (usury), to eat
up an orphan's wealth, to give back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield
at the time of fighting, and to accuse chaste women, who never even think of anything
touching chastity and are good believers.
Sahih Bukhari:
Volume 1, Book 11: Call to Prayers (Adhaan), Number 629:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "ALLAH [S.W.T]
will give shade, to seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but HIS. (These
seven persons are) a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the Worship
of ALLAH [S.W.T] (i.e. Worships ALLAH [S.W.T] sincerely from childhood), a man whose
heart is attached to the Mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the Mosque
in congregation), two persons who love each other Only for ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Sake
and they meet and part in ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Cause Only, a man who refuses the call
of a charming woman of noble birth for illicit intercourse with her and says: I
am afraid of ALLAH [S.W.T], a man who gives charitable gifts so secretly that his
left hand does not know what his right hand has given (i.e. nobody knows how much
he has given in charity), and a person who remembers ALLAH [S.W.T] in seclusion
and his eyes are then flooded with tears."

(R.A):
A man came to the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and asked,
"A man fights for war booty; another fights for fame and a third fights for
showing off; which of them fights in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S]
said, "He who fights that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Word (i.e. Islam) should be Superior,
fights in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause."
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 34, Book 20: On Government (Kitab Al-Imara), Number 4655:
It has been
narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (R.A):
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
said: Of the men he lives the best life who holds the reins of his horse (ever
ready to march) in the way of ALLAH [S.W.T], flies on its back whenever he hears
a fearful shriek, or a call for help, flies to it seeking death at places where
it can be expected. (Next to him) is a man who lives with his sheep at a
hill-top or in a valley, says his prayers regularly, gives Zakat and Worships
his LORD until death comes to him.

Volume 4, Book 52: Fighting for the Cause of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Jihaad), Number 48:
Narrated Abu Huraira
(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Whoever believes
in ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S], offer prayer perfectly and fasts the
month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by ALLAH [S.W.T], no matter
whether he fights in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause or remains in the land where he is born."
The people said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! Shall we acquaint the
people with this good news?" He said, "Paradise has one-hundred grades
which ALLAH [S.W.T] has reserved for the Mujahidin who fight in HIS Cause, and the
distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and
the Earth. So, when you ask ALLAH [S.W.T] (for something), ask for Al-Firdaus which
is the best and highest part of Paradise." (i.e. the sub-narrator added, "I
think the Prophet [S.A.W.S] also said, 'Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne
of BENEFICENT (i.e. ALLAH [S.W.T]), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.")
Sahih Muslim: Chapter 83, Book 1: Faith (Kitab Al Iman), Number 0363:
It is reported on
the authority of al-Mughira b. Shu’ba (R.A):
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said:
Moses (P.B.U.H) asked his LORD: Who amongst the inhabitants of Paradise is the lowest to rank? HE (ALLAH [S.W.T]) said: The
person who would be admitted into Paradise last of all among those deserving of
Paradise who are admitted to it. I would be said
to him: Enter Paradise. He would say: O my LORD! How (should I enter) while the
people have settled in their apartments and taken the shares (portions)? It would
be said to him: Would you be pleased if there be for you like the kingdom of a king
amongst the kings of the world? He would say: I am pleased my LORD. HE (ALLAH [S.W.T])
would say: For you is that, and like that, and like that, and like that, and that.
He would say at the fifth (point): I am well pleased, my LORD. HE (ALLAH [S.W.T])
would say: It is for you and ten times like it, and for you is what your self desires
and your eye enjoys. He would say: I am well pleased, my LORD. He (Moses (P.B.U.H))
said: (Which is) the highest of their (inhabitants of Paradise) ranks? HE (ALLAH
[S.W.T]) said: They are those Whom I choose. I establish their Honor with MY OWN
Hand and then set a seal over it (and they would be Blessed with Bounties) which
no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has perceived: and this is substantiated
by the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and GREAT: "So no soul knows what
delight of the eye is hidden for them; a reward for what they did" (32.17).
Sahih Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 118:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said,
"Fasting is a shield (or a screen or a shelter). So, the person observing
fasting should avoid sexual relation with his wife and should not behave
foolishly and impudently, and if somebody fights with him or abuses him, he
should tell him twice, 'I am fasting." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] added,
"By HIM in WHOSE Hands my soul is, the smell coming out from the mouth of
a fasting person is better in the Sight of ALLAH [S.W.T] than the smell of
musk. (ALLAH [S.W.T] says about the fasting person), 'He has left his food,
drink and desires for MY Sake. The fast is for ME. So I will reward (the
fasting person) for it and the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten
times."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 120:
Narrated Sahl
(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "There is a
gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter
through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through
it. It will be said, 'Where are those who used to observe fasts?' They will get
up, and none except them will enter through it. After their entry the gate will
be closed and nobody will enter through it."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 121:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said,
"Whoever gives two kinds (of things or property) in charity for ALLAH
[S.W.T]'s Cause, will be called from the gates of Paradise and will be
addressed, 'O slaves of ALLAH [S.W.T]! Here is prosperity.' So, whoever was
amongst the people who used to offer their prayers, will be called from the
gate of the prayer; and whoever was amongst the people who used to participate
in Jihad, will be called from the gate of Jihad; and whoever was amongst those
who used to observe fasts, will be called from the gate of Ar-Raiyan; whoever
was amongst those who used to give in charity, will be called from the gate of
charity." Abu Bakr (R.A) said, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you,
O ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! No distress or need will befall him who
will be called from those gates. Will there be any one who will be called from
all these gates?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] replied, "Yes, and I hope you
will be one of them."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 123:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said,
"When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and
the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 127:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Whoever does
not give up forged speech and evil actions, ALLAH [S.W.T] is not in need of his
leaving his food and drink (i.e. ALLAH [S.W.T] will not accept his
fasting.)"
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 129:
Narrated 'Alqama
(R.A):
While I was walking with 'Abdullah (R.A) he
said, "We were in the company of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] and he said, 'He
who can afford to marry should marry, because it will help him refrain from
looking at other women, and save his private parts from looking at other women,
and save his private parts from committing illegal sexual relation; and he who
cannot afford to marry is advised to fast, as fasting will diminish his sexual
power."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 142:
Narrated 'Aisha
(R.A):
Bilal (R.A) used to pronounce the Adhan at
night, so ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "Carry on taking your
meals (eat and drink) till Ibn Um Maktum (R.A) pronounces the Adhan, for he
does not pronounce it till it is dawn.
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 196:
Narrated
'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin Al-'As (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said to me,
"O 'Abdullah (R.A)! Have I not been informed that you fast during the day
and offer prayers all the night?" 'Abdullah (R.A) replied, "Yes, O
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]!" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said,
"Don't do that; fast for few days and then give it up for few days, offer
prayers and also sleep at night, as your body has a right on you, and your wife
has a right on you, and your guest has a right on you. And it is sufficient for
you to fast three days in a month, as the reward of a good deed is multiplied
ten times, so it will be like fasting throughout the year." I insisted (on
fasting) and so I was given a hard instruction. I said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s
Apostle [S.A.W.S]! I have power." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Fast
like the fasting of the Prophet David (P.B.U.H) and do not fast more than
that." I said, "How was the fasting of the Prophet of ALLAH [S.W.T],
David (P.B.U.H)?" He said, "Half of the year," (i.e. he used to
fast on every alternate day). Afterwards when 'Abdullah (R.A) became old, he
used to say, "It would have been better for me if I had accepted the
permission of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] (which he gave me i.e. to fast only three
days a month)."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 206:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
I heard the Prophet [S.A.W.S] saying,

Narrated Abu
'Ubaid (R.A) (the slave of Ibn Azhar):
I witnessed the 'Id with 'Umar bin Al-Kattab
(R.A) who said, ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] has forbidden people to fast
on the day on which you break fasting (the fasts of Ramadan) and the day on
which you eat the meat of your sacrifices (the first day of 'Id ul Fitr and 'Id
ul-Adha).
Sahih
Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 215:
Narrated Abu
Said Al-Khudri (R.A) (who fought in twelve Ghazawat in the company of the
Prophet [S.A.W.S]):
I heard four things from the Prophet [S.A.W.S]
and they won my admiration. He said:
1. "No lady
should travel on a journey of two days except with her husband or a
Dhi-Mahram";
2. "No
fasting is permissible on the two days of Id-ul-Fitr and 'Id-ul-Adha";
3. "No
prayer (may be offered) after the morning compulsory prayer until the sun
rises; and no prayer after the 'Asr prayer till the sun sets";
4. "One
should travel only for visiting three Masjid (Mosques): Masjid-ul-Haram
(Mecca), Masjid-ul-Aqsa (Jerusalem), and this (my) Mosque (at Medina)".
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 224:
Narrated Ibn
'Abbas (R.A):
I never saw the Prophet [S.A.W.S] seeking to
fast on a day more (preferable to him) than this day, the day of 'Ashura', or
this month, i.e. the month of Ramadan.
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 31: Fasting, Number 125:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Whoever
established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a
reward from ALLAH [S.W.T], then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and
whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith, and hoping for a
reward from ALLAH [S.W.T], then all his previous sins will be forgiven."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 32: Praying at Night in Ramadan, Number 227:
Narrated Abu
Huraira (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said,
"Whoever prayed at night the whole month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith
and hoping for a reward from ALLAH [S.W.T], then all his previous sins will be
Forgiven." Ibn Shihab (R.A) (a sub-narrator) said, "ALLAH [S.W.T]’s
Apostle [S.A.W.S] died and the people continued observing that (i.e. Nawafil
offered individually, not in congregation), and it remained as it was during
the Caliphate of Abu Bakr (R.A) and in the early days of 'Umar (R.A)'s
Caliphate." 'Abdur Rahman bin 'Abdul Qari (R.A) said, "I went out in
the company of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (R.A) one night in Ramadan to the Mosque
and found the people praying in different groups. A man praying alone or a man
praying with a little group behind him. So, 'Umar (R.A) said, 'In my opinion I
would better collect these (people) under the leadership of one Qari (Reciter)
(i.e. let them pray in congregation!)'. So, he made up his mind to congregate
them behind Ubai bin Ka'b (R.A). Then on another night I went again in his
company and the people were praying behind their reciter. On that, 'Umar (R.A)
remarked, 'What an excellent Bid'a (i.e. innovation in religion) this is; but
the prayer which they do not perform, but sleep at its time is better than the
one they are offering.' He meant the prayer in the last part of the night. (In
those days) people used to pray in the early part of the night."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 32: Praying at Night in Ramadan, Number 232:
Narrated Ibn
'Umar (R.A):
Some men amongst the Companions (R.A) of the
Prophet [S.A.W.S] were shown in their dreams that the night of Qadr was in the
last seven nights of Ramadan. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "It
seems that all your dreams agree that (the Night of Qadr) is in the last seven
nights, and whoever wants to search for it (i.e. the Night of Qadr) should
search in the last seven (nights of Ramadan)."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 3, Book 32: Praying at Night in Ramadan, Number 238:
Narrated Ibn Abbas
(R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Look for the
Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan,' on the night when nine or
seven or five nights remain out of the last ten nights of Ramadan (i.e. 21, 23,
25, respectively)."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 6, Book 61: Virtues of the Qur'an, Number 534:
Narrated Abu
Said Al-Khudri (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said to his companions
(R.A), "Is it difficult for any of you to recite one third of the Qur'an
in one night?" This suggestion was difficult for them so they said,
"Who among us has the power to do so, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle
[S.A.W.S]?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied: "ALLAH (the)
ONE, the SELF-SUFFICIENT MASTER WHOM all Creatures need.' (Surat Al-Ikhlas
112.1--to the End) is equal to one third of the Qur'an."
Sahih
Bukhari: Volume 9, Book 93: Oneness, Uniqueness of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Tawheed),
Number 539:
Narrated Abu
Bakr (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Time has
come back to its original state which it had when ALLAH [S.W.T] Created the
Heavens and the Earth, the year is twelve months, of which four are sacred;
(and out of these four) three are in succession, namely, Dhul-Qa'da, Dhul-Hijja
and Muharram, and (the fourth one) Rajab Mudar which is between Jumad
(Ath-Tham) and Sha'ban." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then asked us, "Which
month is this?" We said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S]
know (it) better." He kept quiet so long that we thought he might call it
by another name. Then he said, "Isn't it Dhul-Hijja?" We said,
"Yes." He asked "What town is this?" We said, "ALLAH
[S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S] know (it) better.' Then he kept quiet so long
that we thought he might call it by another name. He then said, "Isn't it
the (forbidden) Town (Mecca)?" We said, "Yes." He asked,
"What is the day today?" We said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle
[S.A.W.S] know (it) better. Then he kept quiet so long that we thought that he
might call it by another name. Then he said, "Isn't it the Day of An-Nahr
(slaughtering of sacrifices)?" We said, "Yes." Then he said,
"Your blood (lives), your properties," (the sub narrator Muhammad
(R.A), said: I think he also said): "..and your honor) are as sacred to
one another like the sanctity of this Day of yours, in this Town of yours, in
this Month of yours. You shall meet your LORD and HE will ask you about your
deeds. Beware! Don't go astray after me by striking the necks of one another.
Lo! It is incumbent upon those who are present to inform it to those who are
absent for perhaps the informed one might comprehend it (understand it) better
than some of the present audience." Whenever the sub-narrator Muhammad
(R.A) mentioned that statement, he would say, "The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said
the truth.") And then the Prophet [S.A.W.S] added, "No doubt! Haven't
I conveyed ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Message to you! No doubt! Haven't I conveyed ALLAH
[S.W.T]’s Message to you?"
Sahih Muslim: Chapter 6, Book 1: Faith (Kitab Al Iman), Number 0018:
It is narrated
on the authority of ('Abdullah) son of Umar (R.A):
That the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] said: (The
superstructure of) al-Islam is raised on five (pillars), i.e. the oneness of
ALLAH [S.W.T], the establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, the, fast of
Ramadan, Pilgrimage (to Mecca ).
A person said (to 'Abdullah b. Umar (R.A) the narrator): Which of the two
precedes the other-Pilgrimage or the fasts of Ramadan? Upon this he (the
narrator) replied: No (it is not the Pilgrimage first) but the fasts of Ramadan
precede the Pilgrimage.

[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: No woman should observe fast when her spouse is present
(in the house) but with his permission. And she should not admit any (mahram)
in his house, while he (her husband) is present, but with his permission. And
whatever she spends from his earnings without his sanction, for him is half the
reward.

prayer will he invited to enter by the gate of prayer; those who take part in
Jihad will be invited to enter by the gate of Jihad; those who give charity
will be invited to enter by the gate of charity; and those who observe fast
will be invited to enter by the gate ar-Rayyan. Abu Bakr Siddiq (R.A) said:
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], is it necessary that a person be invited
through one of these gates? Will anyone be invited to enter by all those gates?

Masruq (R.A) said to her: There are two persons among the Companions (R.A) of
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] none of whom abandons the good, but one of
them hastens to observe sunset prayer and break the fast, and the other delays
in observing the sunset prayer and in breaking the fast, whereupon she said:
Who hastens to observe sunset prayer and break the fast? He said: It is
'Abdullah (R.A). Upon this she said: This is how the Messenger of ALLAH
[S.A.W.S] used to do.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 10, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2421:
'Umar (R.A)
reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying:
When the night approaches and the day retreats and the sun sinks down, then the
observer of the fast should break it. Ibn Numair (R.A) made no mention of the
word "then".

Ibn Abi Aufa
(R.A) reported:
We were with the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] on a journey. When the sun sank he said to a person: Get down and
prepare barley meal for us. Upon this he said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S], let there be dusk. (He the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Get down
and prepare barley meal for us. He (the person) said: There is still (the light
of) day upon us. (But) he got down (in obedience to the command of the Holy
Prophet [S.A.W.S]) and prepared a barley meal for him and he (the Holy Prophet
[S.A.W.S]) drank that (liquid meal) and then said: When you see the night
approaching from that side (west) (and he pointed towards the east with his
hand), then the observer of the fast should break it.

Ibn 'Umar (R.A)
said:
That the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
forbade uninterrupted fasting. They (some of the Companions (R.A)) said: You
yourself fast uninterruptedly, whereupon he said: I am not like you. I am fed
and supplied drink (by ALLAH [S.W.T]).
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 11, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2430:
Abu Huraira
(R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying:
Abstain from Saum-Wisal. They (his companions (R.A)) said: Messenger of ALLAH
[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], but you observe Saum Wisal. Upon this he said: You are not
like me in this matter, for I spend my night (in a state) that my LORD feeds me
and provides me drink. Devote yourselves to the deeds (the burden of which) you
can bear.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 11, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2433:
Anas (R.A)
reported:
The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] was
observing prayer during Ramadan. I came and stood by his side. Then another man
came and he stood likewise till we became a group. When the Apostle of ALLAH
[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] perceived that we were behind him, he lightened the prayer.
He then went to his abode and observed such (a long) prayer (the like of which)
he never observed with us. When it was morning we said to him: Did you perceive
us during the night? Upon this he said: Yes, it was this (realization) that
induced me to do that which I did. He (the narrator) said: The Messenger of
ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] began to observe Saum Wisal at the end of the month (of
Ramadan), and some persons among his companions (R.A) began to observe this
uninterrupted fast, whereupon the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: What
about such persons who observe uninterrupted fasts? You are not like me. By
ALLAH [S.W.T] if the month were lengthened for me, I would have observed Saum
Wisal, so that those who act with an exaggeration would (have been obliged) to
abandon their exaggeration.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 11, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2434:
Anas (R.A)
reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
observed Saum Wisal during the early part of the month of Ramadan. The people
among Muslims also observed uninterrupted fast. This (news) reached him (the
Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) and he said: Had the month been lengthened for me I
would have continued observing Saum Wisal, so that those who act with forced
hardness would (have been obliged) to abandon it. You are not like me (or he
said): I am not like you. I continue to do so (in a state) that my LORD feeds
me and provides me drink.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 13, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2452:
'A'isha (R.A), the
wife of the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], said:
The dawn broke upon the Messenger of ALLAH
[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] during the Ramadan in a state of junub not because of sexual
dream (but on account of intercourse) and he washed himself and observed fast.
Sahih Muslim,

[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] and said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], I am undone.
He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: What has brought about your ruin? He
said: I have had intercourse with my wife during the month of Ramadan. Upon
this he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Can you find a slave to set him
free? He said: No. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] again) said: Can you observe
fast for two consecutive months? He said: No. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S])
said: Can you provide food to sixty poor people?, He said: No. He then sat down
and (in the meanwhile) there was brought to the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
a basket which contained dates. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Give
these (dates) in charity. He (the man) said: Am I to give to one who is poorer
than I? There is no family poorer than mine between the two lava plains of
Medina. The Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] laughed so that his molar teeth became
visible and said: Go and give it to your family to eat.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 15, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2469:
A hadlth like
this has been transmitted on the authority of Ibn Shibab (R.A) who said:
That they (the Companions (R.A) of the Holy
Prophet [S.A.W.S]) followed the latest of his commands and looked upon it as
one abrogating (the previous ones) and the most firm.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 15, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2470:
Ibn 'Abbas (R.A)
reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
journeyed during the month of Ramadan in a slate of fasting till he reached
'Usfan. He then ordered a cup containing drinking water and he drank that
openly so that the people might see it, and broke the fast (and did not resume
it) till he reached Mecca. Ibn 'Abbas (R.A) said: ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger
[S.A.W.S] fasted and broke the fast, so he who wished fasted and he who wished
to break it broke it.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 15, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2471:
Ibn 'Abbas (R.A)
reported:
Do not condemn one who observes fast, or one
who does not observe (in a journey) for the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] observed fast in a journey or he did not observe it (too).
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 15, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2474:
Jabir b.
'Abdullah (R.A) reported:
That in the course of a journey ALLAH
[S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] saw a man, people crowding around him and
providing him a shade. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: What is
the matter with him? They said: He is a person observing fast. Whereupon the
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: It is no righteousness that you fast
on journey.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 15, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2480:
Abu Sa'id
al-Khudri (R.A) reported:
We went out on an expedition with the
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] during Ramadan. Some of us observed the
fast and some of us broke it. Neither the observer of the fast had any grudge
against one who broke it, nor the breaker of the fast had any grudge against
one who had fasted. They knew that he who had strength enough (to bear its
rigor) fasted and that was good, and they also found that he who felt weakness
(and could not bear the burden) broke it, and that was also good.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 16, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2484:
Anas (R.A)
reported:
We were with the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] on a journey. Some of us had been observing the fast and some of us
had not been fasting. We got down at a place on a hot day. Most of us had the
cloth for shelter. There were also those amongst us who sheltered (themselves
against the rays of the) sun with the help of their hands. The observers of the
fast fell down (on account of weakness). Those who had not observed it got up
and pitched tents and watered the mounts. Thereupon the Messenger of ALLAH
[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: The breakers of the fast have taken away the reward
today.
Sahih Muslim,

Anas (R.A)
reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
was journeying (along with his companions (R.A)). Some of them had observed the
fast whereas the others had broken it. Those who did not fast girded up their
loins and worked, but the observers of the fast were too weak to work. Upon
this he (the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]) said: Today the breakers of
the fast have gone with the reward.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 16, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2486:
Qaza'a (R.A)
reported:
I came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (R.A) and he was
surrounded (by people), and when they dispersed I said to him: I am not going
to ask you about what these people were asking. I ask you about fasting on a
journey. Upon this he said: We traveled with the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] towards Mecca and we had been observing fast. We halted at a place.
There the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: You are nearing your enemy
and breaking of fast would give you greater strength, and that was a concession
(given to us). But some of us continued to observe the fast and some of us
broke it. We then got down at another place and he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S])
said: You are going to encounter the enemy in the morning and breaking of the
fast would give you strength, so break the fast. As it was a point of stress,
so we broke the fast. But subsequently we saw ourselves observing the fast with
the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] on a journey.

Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] thus: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S], I am a person devoted much to fasting. Should I fast during the
journey? He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Fast if you like and break it if
you like.

the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] on the day of 'Arafa. Some of them

fasting. I sent a cup of milk to him while he was riding his camel at 'Arafa,
and he drank it.

the Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]):
That people had doubt about the fasting of
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] on the day of 'Arafa. Maimuna (R.A) sent
him a cup of milk and he was halting at a place and he drank it and the people
were seeing him.

That the Quraish used to fast on the day of
'Ashura in the pre-Islamic days and the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
also observed it. When he migrated to Medina, he himself observed this fast and
commanded (others) to observe it. But when fasting during the month of Ramadan
was made obligatory he said: He who wishes to observe this fast may do so, and
he who wishes to abandon it may do so.

observe fast on the day of Ashura and the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
observed it and the Muslims too (observed it) before fasting in Ramadan became
obligatory. But when it became obligatory, the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] said: 'Ashura is one of the days of ALLAH [S.W.T], so he who wished
should observe fast and he who wished otherwise should abandon it.

Ibn'Abbas (R.A)
reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
arrived in Medina and found the Jews observing fast on the day of 'Ashura. The
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said to them: What is the (significance)
of this day that you observe fast on it? They said: It is the day of great
(significance) when ALLAH [S.W.T] delivered Moses (P.B.U.H) and his people, and
drowned the Pharaoh and his people, and Moses (P.B.U.H) observed fast out of
gratitude and we also observe it. Upon this the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] said: We have more right, and we have a closer connection with Moses
(P.B.U.H) than you have; so ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] observed fast
(on the day of 'Ashura), and gave orders that it should be observed.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 19, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2524:
Ibn Abbas (R.A)
was asked about observing of fast on the day of Ashura, whereupon he said:
I do not know ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger
[S.A.W.S] singling out any day's fast and considering it more excellent than
another, except this day (the day of Ashura) and this month, meaning the month
of Ramadan.

using his mantle as a pillow near the fountain of Zamzam. I said to him: Tell
me about fasting on Ashura. He said: When you see the new moon of Muharram then
count the (days) and observe fast on the 9th. I said to him: Is it how the
Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] observed the fast? He said: Yes.

as a fast, they (his companions (R.A)) said to him: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S], it is a day which the Jews and Christians hold in high esteem.
Thereupon the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: When the next year
comes, ALLAH willing, we would observe fast on the 9th. But the Messenger of
ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] died before the advent of the next year.

day of Ashura."
Sahih Muslim,

sent (a person) on the morning of Ashura to the villages of Ansar around Medina
(with this message): He who got up in the morning fasting (without eating
anything) he should complete his fast, and he who had had his breakfast in the
morning, he should complete the rest of the day (without food). The Companions
(R.A) said; we henceforth observed fast on it (on the day of 'Ashura) and,
ALLAH [S.W.T] willing, made our children observe that. We went to the Mosque
and made toys out of wool for them and when anyone felt hungry and wept for
food we gave them these toys till it was the time to break the fast.

(R.A). He came (out in an open space) and prayed and (after) completing it
addressed the people and said: The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] has

with him. Uthman (R.A) said to him: Abu 'Abd al-Rahman (R.A), should we not
marry you to a young girl who may recall to you some of the past of your by
gone days; there upon he said: If you say so, ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger
[S.A.W.S] said: O young men, those among you who can support a wife should
marry, for it restrains eyes from casting (evil glances) and preserves one from
immorality; but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting for it is
a means of controlling sexual desire.

he said: You see that if your mother had died in debt, would it not have been
paid on her behalf? She said: Yes. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Then
observe fast on behalf of your mother.

Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: There is a definite reward for you and she (the
maid-servant) has been returned to you as an inheritance. She (that woman)

Every (good) deed of the son of Adam (P.B.U.H) would be multiplied, a good deed
receiving a tenfold to seven hundredfold reward. ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and
MAJESTIC, has said: With the exception of fasting, for it is done for ME and I
will give a reward for it, for one abandons his passion and food for MY Sake.
There are two occasions of joy for one who fasts, joy when he breaks it, and
joy when he meets his LORD, and the breath (of an observer of fast) is sweeter
to ALLAH [S.W.T] than the fragrance of musk.

said: I am observing fast. She said: The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
went out, and there was a present, for us and (at the same time) some visitors
dropped in. When the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] came back, I said to
him: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], a present was given to us, (and in
the meanwhile) there came to us visitors (a major Portion of it has been spent
on them), but I have saved something for you. He said: What is it? I said: It
is hais (a compound of dates and clarified butter). He said: Bring that. So I
brought it to him and he ate it and then said: I woke up in the morning
observing fast. Talha (R.A) said: I narrated this hadith to Mujahid (R.A) and
he said: This (observing of voluntary fast) is like a person who sets apart
sadaqa out of his wealth. He may spend it if he likes, or he may retain it if

not observe fast till we said: He has given up perhaps never to fast, and I
never saw him observing (voluntary fasts) more in any other month than that of
Sha'ban. (It appeared as if) he observed fast throughout the whole of Sha'ban
except a few (days).
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 31, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2582:
'A'isha (R.A)
reported:
The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] did
not observe fast in any month of the year more than in the month of Sha'ban,
and used to say: Do as many deeds as you are capable of doing, for ALLAH
[S.W.T] will not become weary (of giving you reward), but you would be tired
(of doing good deeds); and he also said: The deed liked most by ALLAH [S.W.T]
is one to which the doer adheres constantly even if it is small.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 32, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2595:
'Abdullah b.
'Amr (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying:
With ALLAH [S.W.T] the best fasting is that of David (P.B.U.H) and the best
prayer is that of David (P.B.U.H) for he slept half of the night and stood for
prayer for the third of it and (then) slept the sixth part of it and he
observed fast one day and broke on the other.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 32, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2596:
'Abdullah b.
'Amr b. al-'As (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying:
The best fasting in the eye of ALLAH [S.W.T] is that of David (P.B.U.H), for he
fasted for half of the age (he fasted on alternate days), and the best prayer
in the eye of ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and MAJESTIC, is that of David
(P.B.U.H), for he slept for half of the night and then stood for prayer and
then again slept. He prayed for one-third of the night after midnight. He (the
narrator) said: I asked 'Amr b. Dinar (R.A) whether 'Amr b. Aus (R.A) said:
That he stood for prayer one-third of the night after midnight. He said: Yes.
Sahih Muslim,
Chapter 32, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2599:
'Abdullah b.
'Amr (R.A) reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
said to me! 'Abdullah b. 'Amr (R.A), it has been conveyed to me that you
observe fast during the day and stand in prayer during the whole night. Don't
do that, for your body has a share of its own in you, your eye has a share of
its own in you, your wife has a share of her own in you. Observe fast and break
it too. Fast for three days in every month and that is a perpetual fasting. I
said! Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], I have got strength enough (to do
more than this), whereupon he said: Then observe the fast of David (P.B.U.H).
Observe fast one day and break it (on the other) day. And he ('Abdullah b. 'Amr
(R.A)) used to say: Would that I had availed myself of this concession.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 32, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2600:
Mu'adha
al-'Adawiyya (R.A) reported:
That she asked 'A'isha (R.A), the wife of the
Apostle of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], whether the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T]
[S.A.W.S] observed fasts for three days during every month. She said: Yes I
said to her: Which were (the particular) days of the month on which he observed
fast? She said: He was not particular about the days of the month on which to
observe fast.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 33, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2603:
Abu Qatada
al-Ansari (R.A) reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
was asked about his fasting. The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] felt
annoyed. Thereupon 'Umar (R.A) said: We are pleased with ALLAH [S.W.T] as the
LORD, with Islam as our Code of Life, with Muhammad [S.A.W.S] as the Messenger
and with our pledge (to you for willing and cheerful submission) as a (sacred)
commitment. He was then asked about perpetual fasting, whereupon he said: He
neither fasted nor did he break it, or he did not fast and he did not break it.
He was then asked about fasting for two days and breaking one day. He (the Holy
Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: And who has strength enough to do it? He was asked
about fasting for a day and breaking for two days, whereupon he said: May ALLAH
[S.W.T] bestow upon us strength to do it. He was then asked about fasting for a
day and breaking on the other, whereupon he said: That is the fasting of my brother
David (P.B.U.H). He was then asked about fasting on Monday, whereupon he said:
It was the day on which I was born, on which I was commissioned with
Prophethood or Revelation was sent to me, (and he further) said: Three days'
fasting every month and of the whole of Ramadan every year is a perpetual fast.
He was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafa (9th of Dhu'I-Hijja), whereupon
he said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year. He was
asked about fasting on the day of 'Ashura (10th of Muharram), whereupon be
said: It expiates the sins of the preceding year. (Imam Muslim (R.A) said: That
in this hadith there is a) narration of Imam Shu'ba (R.A) that he was asked
about fasting on Monday and Thursday, but we (Imam Muslim (R.A)) did not
mention Thursday for we found it as an error (in reporting).

days instead of (one fast) when you have completed (fasts of) Ramadan.

night.

(fasting) in the month of Ramadan is the fast in ALLAH [S.W.T]'s month
al-Muharram.

al-Ansari (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying:
He who observed the fast of Ramadan and then followed it with six (fasts) of
Shawwal. It would be as if he fasted perpetually.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 38, Book 6: Fasting (Kitab Al-Sawm), Number 2637:
Abdullah b. Umar
(R.A) reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
used to observe I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. Nafi' (R.A) said:

[S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] used to observe I'tikaf.

Ka'b b. 'Ujra
(R.A) reported:
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]
stood near him and lice were falling from his head. Thereupon he (the Holy
Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Do these vermin’s trouble you? I said: Yes. Thereupon
he said: Then shave your head; and it was in connection with me that this verse
was revealed: "Whoever among you is sick or has an ailment of the head, he
(may effect) compensation by fasting or alms or a sacrifice". He (the Holy
Prophet [S.A.W.S], therefore) said to me: Observe fast for three days or give a
quantity of alms enough to feed six needy persons or offer sacrifice (of an
animal) that is available.
Sahih Muslim:
Chapter 21, Book 7: Pilgrimage (Kitab Al-Hajj), Number 2832:
Abdullah b.
'Umar (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] observed
Tamattu' in Hajjat-ul-Wada'. He first put on Ihram for 'Umra and then for Hajj
and then offered animal sacrifice. So he drove the sacrificial animals with him
from Dhu'l-Hulaifa. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] commenced Ihram of Umra
and thus pronounced Talbiya for 'Umra and then (put on Ihram for Hajj) and
pronounced Talbiya for Hajj. And the people performed Tamattu' in the company
of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]. They put on Ihram for Umra (first) and
then for Hajj. Some of them had sacrificial animals which they had brought with
them, whereas some of them had none to sacrifice. So when ALLAH [S.W.T]’s
Messenger [S.A.W.S] came to Mecca, he said to the people: He who amongst you
has brought sacrificial animals along with him must not treat as lawful
anything which has become unlawful for him till he has completed the Hajj; and
he, who amongst you has not brought the sacrificial animals should
circumambulate the House, and run between al-Safa' and al-Marwa and clip (his
hair) and put off the Ihram, and then again put on the Ihram for Hajj and offer
sacrifice of animals. But he who does not find the sacrificial animal, he
should observe fast for three days during the Hajj and for seven days when he
returns to his family. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] circumambulated (the
House) when he came to Mecca: he first kissed the corner (of the Ka'ba
containing the Black Stone), then ran in three circuits out of seven and walked
in four circuits. And then when he had finished the circumambulation of the
House he observed two rak'ahs of prayer at the Station (of Ibrahim (P.B.U.H)),
and then pronounced Salaam (for concluding the rak'ahs), and departed and came
to al-Safa' and ran seven times between al-Safa' and al-Marwa. After that he
did not treat anything as lawful which had become unlawful till he had
completed his Hajj and sacrificed his animal on the day of sacrifice (10th of
Dhu'l-Hijja). and then went back quickly (to Mecca) and performed
circumambulation of the House (known as tawaf ifada) after which all that was
unlawful for him became lawful; and those who had brought the sacrificial
animals along with them did as ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] had done.
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of 'A'isha (R.A). The wife of
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S], concerning his Tamattu' of Hajj and 'Umra
and performing of Tamattu' by people in his company.

saying: What do these want?

Verily ALLAH [S.W.T] likes three things for you and HE disapproves three things
for you. HE is pleased with you that you Worship HIM and associate nor anything
with HIM, that you hold fast the rope of ALLAH [S.W.T], and be not scattered;
and HE disapproves for you irrelevant talk, persistent questioning and the
wasting of wealth.
Sahih Muslim:

It has been
narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira (R.A) who said:
The Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] was
asked: What deed could be an equivalent of Jihad in the way of ALLAH [S.W.T],
the ALMIGHTY and EXALTED? He answered: You do not have the strength to do that
deed. The narrator said: They repeated the question twice or thrice. Every time
he answered: You do not have the strength to do it. When the question was asked
for the third time, he said: One who goes out for Jihad is like a person who
keeps fasts, stands in prayer (constantly), (obeying) ALLAH [S.W.T]’s (behests
contained in) the verses (of the Qur'an), and does not exhibit any lassitude in
fasting and prayer until the Mujahid returns from Jihad in the way of ALLAH
[S.W.T], the EXALTED.
Sahih Muslim,

(again) said: Who amongst you has followed the bier today? Abu Bakr (R.A) said:
It is I. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) again said: Who amongst you has served
food to the needy? Abu Bakr (R.A) said: It is I. He (again) said: Who amongst
you has today visited the sick? Abu Bakr (R.A) said: It is I. Thereupon ALLAH
[S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: He must get into Paradise who combines in
himself (all these noble qualities and virtues).

Do you know who is poor? They (the Companions (R.A) of the Holy Prophet
[S.A.W.S]) said: A poor man amongst us is one who has neither dirham with him
nor wealth. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: The poor of my Ummah would be
he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with prayers and fasts and Zakat
but (he would find himself bankrupt on that day as he would have exhausted his
funds of virtues) since he hurled abuses upon others, brought calumny against
others and unlawfully consumed the wealth of others and shed the blood of
others and beat others, and his virtues would be credited to the account of one
(who suffered at his hand). And if his good deeds fall short to clear the
account, then his sins would be entered in (his account) and he would be thrown
in the Hell-Fire.
