Al-'Infiţār (The Cleaving) - سورة الإنفطار
[In
the Name of ALLAH, the ENTIRELY MERCIFUL, the ESPECIALLY MERCIFUL]
82:1
إِذَا السَّمَاءُ
انفَطَرَتْ
Pronunciation
Itha
assamao infatarat
Translation
When
the sky breaks apart
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
When
the heaven is split open, [when it is] rent asunder,
وَإِذَا
الْكَوَاكِبُ انتَثَرَتْ
Pronunciation
Wa-itha
alkawakibu intatharat
Translation
And
when the stars fall, scattering,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and
when the stars are dispersed, [when] they expire and begin to fall,
وَإِذَا
الْبِحَارُ فُجِّرَتْ
Pronunciation
Wa-itha
albiharu fujjirat
Translation
And
when the seas are erupted
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and
when the seas are burst forth, released one upon the other, forming one mass of
water, so that the sweet [water] mixes with the salty;
وَإِذَا
الْقُبُورُ بُعْثِرَتْ
Pronunciation
Wa-itha
alqubooru buAAthirat
Translation
And
when the [contents of] graves are scattered,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and
when the tombs are overturned, [when] their earth [above them] is dug up and
its dead are raised (the response to idhā, ‘when’, and all that is supplemented
thereto is [the following]):
عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ
مَّا قَدَّمَتْ وَأَخَّرَتْ
Pronunciation
AAalimat
nafsun ma qaddamatwaakhkharat
Translation
A
soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
a
soul, every soul, will know, at the time of the [occurrence of the] things
mentioned, which is the Day of Resurrection, what it has sent ahead, in the way
of deeds, and, what [it has], left behind, of these and did not do.
يَا أَيُّهَا
الْإِنسَانُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ الْكَرِيمِ
Pronunciation
Ya
ayyuha al-insanu magharraka birabbika alkareem
Translation
O
mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
O,
disbelieving, man! What has deceived you with regard to your generous Lord?, so
that you have disobeyed Him,
الَّذِي خَلَقَكَ
فَسَوَّاكَ فَعَدَلَكَ
Pronunciation
Allathee
khalaqaka fasawwakafaAAadalak
Translation
Who
created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Who
created you, when you were not, then made you upright, in your created form,
with sound limbs, then proportioned you (read fa-‘adalak or fa-‘addalak),
making you symmetrical in shape, with well-proportioned parts, so that no hand
or leg is longer than the other,
فِي أَيِّ
صُورَةٍ مَّا شَاءَ رَكَّبَكَ
Pronunciation
Fee
ayyi sooratin ma shaarakkabak
Translation
In
whatever form He willed has He assembled you.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
assembling
you in whatever (mā is a relative) form He will?
كَلَّا بَلْ
تُكَذِّبُونَ بِالدِّينِ
Pronunciation
Kalla
bal tukaththiboona biddeen
Translation
No!
But you deny the Recompense.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
No
indeed! — a deterrent against letting oneself be misled by the generosity of
God, exalted be He. Rather you, that is, disbelievers of Mecca, deny Judgement,
requital for deeds;
وَإِنَّ
عَلَيْكُمْ لَحَافِظِينَ
Pronunciation
Wa-inna
AAalaykum lahafitheen
Translation
And
indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Yet
lo! there are above you watchers, from among the angels, over your deeds,
كِرَامًا
كَاتِبِينَ
Pronunciation
Kiraman
katibeen
Translation
Noble
and recording;
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
noble,
in God’s sight, writers, of these [deeds],
يَعْلَمُونَ مَا
تَفْعَلُونَ
Pronunciation
YaAAlamoona
ma tafAAaloon
Translation
They
know whatever you do.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
who
know whatever you do, all of it.
إِنَّ
الْأَبْرَارَ لَفِي نَعِيمٍ
Pronunciation
Inna
al-abrara lafee naAAeem
Translation
Indeed,
the righteous will be in pleasure,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Indeed
the pious, the believers who are sincere in their faith, shall be amid bliss,
[in] Paradise,
وَإِنَّ
الْفُجَّارَ لَفِي جَحِيمٍ
Pronunciation
Wa-inna
alfujjara lafee jaheem
Translation
And
indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and
indeed the profligates, the disbelievers, shall be in Hell-fire, a scorching
fire,
يَصْلَوْنَهَا
يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
Pronunciation
Yaslawnaha
yawma addeen
Translation
They
will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense,
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
entering
it, to suffer its heat, on the Day of Judgement, [the Day of] Requital,
وَمَا هُمْ
عَنْهَا بِغَائِبِينَ
Pronunciation
Wama
hum AAanha bigha-ibeen
Translation
And
never therefrom will they be absent.
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
and
they shall not be absent from it, [they shall not] be taken out of it.
وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ
مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ
Pronunciation
Wama
adraka ma yawmu addeeni
Translation
And
what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
And
what would show you, [what would] inform you, what the Day of Judgement is?
ثُمَّ مَا أَدْرَاكَ
مَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ
Pronunciation
Thumma
ma adraka mayawmu addeen
Translation
Then,
what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense?
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
Again,
what would show you what the Day of Judgement is? — [repeated] to emphasise its
enormity.
يَوْمَ لَا
تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِّنَفْسٍ شَيْئًا ۖ وَالْأَمْرُ
يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلَّهِ
Pronunciation
Yawma
la tamliku nafsun linafsinshay-an wal-amru yawma-ithin lillah
Translation
It
is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing;
and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah .
Tafsir al-Jalalayn
[It
is] a day (read yawmu) when no soul will be of any avail, any use, to another
soul, and the [absolute] command on that day will be God’s: there will be no
[power of] command for anyone other than Him thereat, in other words, none has
been given the power to mediate thereupon, in contrast to [situations] in this
world.
