Selected Hadith Regarding Al-'Ilm (Knowledge / Wisdom)

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 13, Book 32: Virtue, Good Manners And Joining Of The Ties Of Relationship, Number 6246:
Abu Dharr (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying that ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and GLORIOUS, said: MY servants, I have made oppression unlawful for ME and unlawful for you, so do not commit oppression against one another. MY servants, all of you are liable to err except one whom I guide on the right path, so seek right guidance from ME so that I should direct you to the right path. O MY servants, all of you are hungry (needy) except one whom I feed, so beg food from ME, so that I may give that to you. O MY servants, all of you are naked (need clothes) except one whom I provide garments, so beg clothes from ME, so that I should clothe you. O MY servants, you commit error night and day and I am there to pardon your sins, so beg pardon from ME, so that I should grant you pardon. O MY servants, you can neither do ME any harm nor can you do ME any good. O MY servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and even the whole of human race of yours, and that of jinns even, become (equal in) ALLAH [S.W.T] conscious like the heart of a single person amongst you, nothing would add to MY Power. O MY servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race of yours and that of the jinns too in unison become the most wicked (all beating) like the heart of a single person, it would cause no loss to MY Power. O MY servants, even if the first amongst you and the last amongst you and the whole human race of yours and that of jinns also all stand in one plain ground and you ask ME and I confer upon every person what he asks for, it would not in any way, cause any loss to ME (even less) than that which is caused to the ocean by dipping the needle in it. MY servants, these for you I shall reward you for then, so he who deeds of yours which I am recording finds good should Praise ALLAH and he who does not find that should not blame anyone but his ownself. Sa'id (R.A) said: That when Abu Idris Khaulini (R.A) narrated this hadith he knelt upon his knees.

And when they find some people celebrating the Praises of ALLAH [S.W.T], they call each other, saying, "Come to the object of your pursuit.'" He added, "Then the Angels (P.B.U.T) encircle them with their wings up to the sky of the world." He added. "(after those people celebrated the Praises of ALLAH [S.W.T], and the Angels (P.B.U.T) go back), their LORD, asks them (those Angels (P.B.U.T)) - though HE knows better than them----'What do MY slaves say?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'they say: Subhan ALLAH, ALLAHU Akbar, and Alham-du-lillah, ALLAH [S.W.T] then says 'Did they see ME?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'No! By ALLAH [S.W.T], they didn't see YOU.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says, How it would have been if they saw ME?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'If they saw YOU, they would Worship YOU more devoutly and celebrate YOUR Glory more deeply, and declare YOUR freedom from any resemblance to anything more often.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says (to the Angels (P.B.U.T)), 'What do they ask ME for?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) reply, 'They ask YOU for Paradise.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says (to the Angels (P.B.U.T)), 'Did they see it?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) say, 'No! By ALLAH [S.W.T], O LORD! They did not see it.' ALLAH [S.W.T] says, How it would have been if they saw it?' The Angels (P.B.U.T) say, 'If they saw it, they would have greater covetousness for it and would seek it with greater zeal and would have greater desire for it.' And the most beloved things with which MY slave comes nearer to ME, is what I have enjoined upon him; and MY slave keeps on coming closer to ME through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks ME, I will give him, and if he asks MY Protection (Refuge), I will Protect him; (i.e. give him MY Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."

If he remembers ME in himself, I too, remember him in MYSELF; and if he remembers ME in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to ME, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to ME, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to ME walking, I go to him running.'"

The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted on it till midday and then they were unable to carry on. And they were given (a reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted on it till 'Asr Prayer and then they were unable to carry on, so they were given a reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then you were given the Qur'an and you acted on it till sunset, therefore you were given (a reward equal to) two Qirats each. On that, the people of the Scriptures said, 'These people (Muslims) did less work than we but they took a bigger reward.' ALLAH [S.W.T] said (to them). Then he further asked, "What is Islam?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied, "To Worship ALLAH [S.W.T] Alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." Then he further asked, "What is Ihsan (perfection)?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied, "To Worship ALLAH [S.W.T] as if you see HIM, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that HE is looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be established?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied, "The answerer has no better knowledge than the questioner. But I will inform you about its portents.
1. When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master.
2. When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except ALLAH [S.W.T]. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then recited: "Verily, with ALLAH (Alone) is the Knowledge of the Hour--." (31.34) Then that man (Gabriel (P.B.U.H)) left and the Prophet [S.A.W.S] asked his companions (R.A) to call him back, but they could not see him. I said: What a fine thing is this! And a narrator who was before me said: The first was better than even this. When I cast a glance, I saw that it was 'Umar (R.A) who said: I see that you have just come and observed: If anyone amongst you performs the ablution, and then completes the ablution well and then says: I testify that there is no god but ALLAH and that Muhammad [S.A.W.S] is the servant of ALLAH and HIS Messenger, the eight gates of Paradise would be opened for him and he may enter by whichever of them he wishes.

We said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], we would like to do it. Upon this he said: Does not one of you go out in the morning to the Mosque and teach or recite two verses from the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T], the MAJESTIC and GLORIOUS? That is better for him than two she camels, and three verses are better (than three she camels), and four verses are better for him than four (she camels), and to on their number in camels.

Recite the two bright ones, Surah al-Baqara and Surah Al ‘Imran, for on the Day of Resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks, pleading for those who recite them. Recite Surah al-Baqara, for to take recourse to it is a blessing and to give it up is a cause of grief, and the magicians cannot confront it. I said: ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S] know best. He again said: Abu’l-Mundhir (R.A), do you know the verse from the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] which, according to you, is the greatest? When I was going to get up, he said, "'Stay in your places," and sat between us, till I felt the coolness of the feet on my chest. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then said, "Shall I not tell you of a thing which is better for you than a servant? They observe prayer as we do; they keep the fasts as we keep, and they give sadaqa out of their surplus riches. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) said: Has ALLAH [S.W.T] not prescribed for you (a course) by following which you can (also) do sadaqa? In every declaration of the Glorification of ALLAH [S.W.T] (i.e. saying Subhan ALLAH) there is a sadaqa, and every Takbir (i.e. saying ALLAHU Akbar) is a sadaqa, and every Praise of HIS (saying al-Hamdu Lillah) is a sadaqa and every declaration that HE is ONE (La illha ill-ALLAH) is a sadaqa, and enjoining of good is a sadaqa, and forbidding of that which is evil is a sadaqa, and in man's sexual intercourse (with his wife,) there is a sadaqa. They (the Companions (R.A)) said: Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], is there reward for him who satisfies his sexual passion among us? The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then said, "O 'Abdullah bin Qais (R.A)! Shall I teach you a sentence which is from the treasures of Paradise? (It is): 'La haula wala quwata illa billah. They have led many of mankind astray:" But whoso followeth me, he verily is of me" (al-Qur'an, 14.36) and Jesus (P.B.U.H) said:" If THOU punisheth them, Lo! They are THY slaves, and if THOU forgiveth them-verily THOU art the MIGHTY, the WISE" (al-Qur'an, 5.118). Then he raised his hands and said: O LORD, my Ummah, my Ummah, and wept; so ALLAH [S.W.T] the HIGH and the EXALTED said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] (Though your LORD knows it fully well) and ask him: What makes thee weep? So Gabriel (P.B.U.H) came to him and asked him, and the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] informed him what he had said (Though ALLAH [S.W.T] knew it fully well). Upon this ALLAH [S.W.T] said: O Gabriel (P.B.U.H), go to Muhammad [S.A.W.S] and say: Verily WE will please thee with regard to your Ummah and would not displease thee.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 5, Book 57: Companions (R.A) of The Prophet [S.A.W.S], Number 37:
Narrated Anas (R.A):
A man asked the Prophet [S.A.W.S] about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, "When will the Hour be?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except that I love ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S]." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "You will be with those whom you love." We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] (i.e. "You will be with those whom you love.") When any one of you is fasting on a day, he should neither indulge in obscene language, nor raise the voice; or if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him he should say: I am a person fasting. By HIM, in WHOSE Hand is the life of Muhammad [S.A.W.S], the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter to ALLAH [S.W.T] on the Day of Judgment than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts has two (occasions) of joy, one when he breaks the fast he is glad with the breaking of (the fast) and one when he meets his LORD he is glad with his fast.

That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: Of the men he lives the best life who holds the reins of his horse (ever ready to march) in the way of ALLAH [S.W.T], flies on its back whenever he hears a fearful shriek, or a call for help, flies to it seeking death at places where it can be expected. (Next to him) is a man who lives with his sheep at a hill-top or in a valley, says his prayers regularly, gives Zakat and Worships his LORD until death comes to him.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 52: Fighting for the Cause of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Jihaad), Number 48:
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Whoever believes in ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S], offer prayer perfectly and fasts the month of Ramadan, will rightfully be granted Paradise by ALLAH [S.W.T], no matter whether he fights in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause or remains in the land where he is born." The people said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! Shall we acquaint the people with this good news?" He said, "Paradise has one-hundred grades which ALLAH [S.W.T] has reserved for the Mujahidin who fight in HIS Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the Heaven and the Earth. So, when you ask ALLAH [S.W.T] (for something), ask for Al-Firdaus which is the best and highest part of Paradise." (i.e. the sub-narrator added, "I think the Prophet [S.A.W.S] also said, 'Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of BENEFICENT (i.e. ALLAH [S.W.T]), and from it originate the rivers of Paradise.")

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 83, Book 1: Faith (Kitab Al Iman), Number 0363:
It is reported on the authority of al-Mughira b. Shu’ba (R.A):
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] said: Moses (P.B.U.H) asked his LORD: Who amongst the inhabitants of Paradise is the lowest to rank? HE (ALLAH [S.W.T]) said: The person who would be admitted into Paradise last of all among those deserving of Paradise who are admitted to it. I would be said to him: Enter Paradise. He would say: O my LORD! How (should I enter) while the people have settled in their apartments and taken the shares (portions)? It would be said to him: Would you be pleased if there be for you like the kingdom of a king amongst the kings of the world? He would say: I am pleased my LORD. HE (ALLAH [S.W.T]) would say: For you is that, and like that, and like that, and like that, and that. He would say at the fifth (point): I am well pleased, my LORD. HE (ALLAH [S.W.T]) would say: It is for you and ten times like it, and for you is what your self desires and your eye enjoys. He would say: I am well pleased, my LORD. He (Moses (P.B.U.H)) said: (Which is) the highest of their (inhabitants of Paradise) ranks? HE (ALLAH [S.W.T]) said: They are those Whom I choose. I establish their Honor with MY OWN Hand and then set a seal over it (and they would be Blessed with Bounties) which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no human mind has perceived: and this is substantiated by the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T], the EXALTED and GREAT: "So no soul knows what delight of the eye is hidden for them; a reward for what they did" (32.17).

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 56:
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
While the Prophet [S.A.W.S] was saying something in a gathering, a Bedouin came and asked him, "When would the Hour (Doomsday) take place?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] continued his talk, so some people said that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] had heard the question, but did not like what that Bedouin had asked. Some of them said that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] had not heard it. When the Prophet [S.A.W.S] finished his speech, he said, "Where is the questioner, who enquired about the Hour (Doomsday)?" The Bedouin said, "I am here, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]." Then the Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday)." The Bedouin said, "How will that be lost?" The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "When the power or authority comes in the hands of unfit persons, then wait for the Hour (Doomsday.)"

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 66:
Narrated Abu Waqid Al-Laithi (R.A):
While ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] was sitting in the Mosque with some people, three men came. Two of them came in front of ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] and the third one went away. The two persons kept on standing before ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] for a while and then one of them found a place in the circle and sat there while the other sat behind the gathering, and the third one went away. When ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] finished his preaching, he said, "Shall I tell you about these three persons? One of them be-took himself to ALLAH [S.W.T], so ALLAH [S.W.T] took him into HIS grace and mercy and accommodated him, the second felt shy from ALLAH [S.W.T], so ALLAH [S.W.T] sheltered him in HIS mercy (and did not punish him), while the third turned his face from ALLAH [S.W.T] and went away, so ALLAH [S.W.T] turned HIS face from him likewise."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 73:
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Do not wish to be like anyone except in two cases. (The first is) A person, whom ALLAH [S.W.T] has given wealth and he spends it righteously; (the second is) the one whom ALLAH [S.W.T] has given wisdom (the Holy Qur'an) and he acts according to it and teaches it to others."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 75:
Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (R.A):
Once the Prophet [S.A.W.S] embraced me and said, "O ALLAH [S.W.T]! Bestow on him the knowledge of the Book (Qur'an)."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 79:
Narrated Abu Musa (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "The example of guidance and knowledge with which ALLAH [S.W.T] has sent me is like abundant rain falling on the earth, some of which was fertile soil that absorbed rain water and brought forth vegetation and grass in abundance. (And) another portion of it was hard and held the rain water and ALLAH [S.W.T] benefited the people with it and they utilized it for drinking, making their animals drink from it and for irrigation of the land for cultivation. (And) a portion of it was barren which could neither hold the water nor bring forth vegetation (then that land gave no benefits). The first is the example of the person who comprehends ALLAH [S.W.T]’s religion and gets benefit (from the knowledge) which ALLAH [S.W.T] has revealed through me (the Prophet [S.A.W.S]'s and learns and then teaches others. The last example is that of a person who does not care for it and does not take ALLAH [S.W.T]’s guidance revealed through me (He is like that barren land.)"

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 80:
Narrated Anas (R.A):

3. Drinking of Alcoholic drinks (will be very common).
4. There will be prevalence of open illegal sexual intercourse.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 81:
Narrated Anas (R.A):
I will narrate to you a Hadith and none other than I will tell you about after it. I heard ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] saying: From among the portents of the Hour are (the following):
1. Religious knowledge will decrease (by the death of religious learned men).
2. Religious ignorance will prevail.
3. There will be prevalence of open illegal sexual intercourse.
4. Women will increase in number and men will decrease in number so much so that fifty women will be looked after by one man.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 82:
Narrated Ibn 'Umar (R.A):
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said, "While I was sleeping, I saw that a cup full of milk was brought to me and I drank my fill till I noticed (the milk) its wetness coming out of my nails. Then I gave the remaining milk to 'Umar Ibn Al-Khattab (R.A)" The companions (R.A) of the Prophet [S.A.W.S] asked, "What have you interpreted (about this dream)?" O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]!" he replied, "(It is religious) knowledge."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 85:
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "(Religious) knowledge will be taken away (by the death of religious scholars) ignorance (in religion) and afflictions will appear; and Harj will increase." Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 86:
Narrated Asma (R.A):
I came to 'Aisha (R.A) while she was praying, and said to her, "What has happened to the people?" She pointed out towards the sky. (I looked towards the Mosque), and saw the people offering the prayer. Aisha (R.A) said, "Subhan ALLAH." I said to her, "Is there a sign?" She nodded with her head meaning, "Yes." I, too, then stood (for the prayer of eclipse) till I became (nearly) unconscious and later on I poured water on my head. After the prayer, the Prophet [S.A.W.S] Praised and Glorified ALLAH [S.W.T] and then said, "Just now at this place I have seen what I have never seen before, including Paradise and Hell. No doubt it has been inspired to me that you will be put to trials in your graves and these trials will be like the trials of masiah-ad-dajjal or nearly like it (the sub narrator is not sure which expression Asma' (R.A) used). You will be asked, 'What do you know about this man (the Prophet Muhammad [S.A.W.S])?' Then the faithful believer (or Asma' (R.A) said a similar word) will reply, 'He is Muhammad [S.A.W.S] ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle who had come to us with clear evidences and guidance and so we accepted his teachings and followed him. And he is Muhammad [S.A.W.S].' And he will repeat it thrice. Then the Angels (P.B.U.T) will say to him, 'Sleep in peace as we have come to know that you were a faithful believer.' On the other hand, a hypocrite or a doubtful person will reply, 'I do not know, but I heard the people saying something and so I said it.' (the same)."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 95:
Narrated Anas (R.A):

1. A Person from the people of the scriptures who believed in his Prophet (P.B.U.H) (Jesus or Moses (P.B.U.T)) and then believed in the Prophet Muhammad [S.A.W.S] (i.e. has embraced Islam).
2. A slave who discharges his duties to ALLAH [S.W.T] and his master.
3. A master of a woman-slave who teaches her good manners and educates her in the best possible way (the religion) and manumits her and then marries her."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 98:
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
I said: "O ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S]! Who will be the luckiest person, who will gain your intercession on the Day of Resurrection?" ALLAH [S.W.T]'s Apostle [S.A.W.S] said: O Abu Huraira (R.A)! "I have thought that none will ask me about it before you as I know your longing for the (learning of) Hadiths. The luckiest person who will have my intercession on the Day of Resurrection will be the one who said sincerely from the bottom of his heart "None has the right to be Worshiped but ALLAH [S.W.T]." And 'Umar bin 'Abdul 'Aziz (R.A.) wrote to Abu Bakr bin Hazm (R.A), "Look for the knowledge of Hadith and get it written, as I am afraid that religious knowledge will vanish and the religious learned men will pass away (die). Do not accept anything save the Hadiths of the Prophet [S.A.W.S]. Circulate knowledge and teach the ignorant, for knowledge does not vanish except when it is kept secretly (to oneself)."

So they will go astray and will lead the people astray."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 3: Knowledge, Number 101:
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (R.A):
Some women requested the Prophet [S.A.W.S] to fix a day for them as the men were taking all his time. On that, he promised them one day for religious lessons and commandments. Once during such a lesson the Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "A woman whose three children die will be shielded by them from the Hell fire." On that a woman asked, "If only two die?" (I ask this), for some of us fight because of being enraged and angry and some for the sake of his pride and haughtiness." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] raised his head (as the questioner was standing) and said, "He who fights so that ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Word (Islam) should be superior, then he fights in ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Cause."

1. "No lady should travel on a journey of two days except with her husband or a Dhi-Mahram";
2. "No fasting is permissible on the two days of Id-ul-Fitr and 'Id-ul-Adha";
3. "No prayer (may be offered) after the morning compulsory prayer until the sun rises; and no prayer after the 'Asr prayer till the sun sets";

How do you ask the people of the Scriptures, though your Book (i.e. the Qur’an) which was revealed to HIS Prophet [S.A.W.S] is the most recent information from ALLAH [S.W.T] and you recite it, the Book that has not been distorted? ALLAH [S.W.T] has revealed to you that the people of the scriptures have changed with their own hands what was revealed to them and they have said (as regards their changed Scriptures): This is from ALLAH [S.W.T], in order to get some worldly benefit thereby." Ibn Abbas (R.A) added: "Isn't the knowledge revealed to you sufficient to prevent you from asking them? By ALLAH [S.W.T] I have never seen any one of them asking (Muslims) about what has been revealed to you."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 6, Book 61: Virtues of the Qur'an, Number 531:

A man was reciting Surat Al-Kahf and his horse was tied with two ropes beside him. A cloud came down and spread over that man, and it kept on coming closer and closer to him till his horse started jumping (as if afraid of something). When it was morning, the man came to the Prophet [S.A.W.S], and told him of that experience. The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "That was As-Sakina (tranquility) which descended because of (the recitation of) the Qur'an."

This suggestion was difficult for them so they said, "Who among us has the power to do so, O ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S]?" ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] replied: "ALLAH (the) ONE, the SELF-SUFFICIENT MASTER WHOM all Creatures need.' (Surat Al-Ikhlas 112.1--to the End) is equal to one third of the Qur'an."

(1) A person who deviates from the right conduct, i.e. an evil doer, in the Haram (sanctuaries of Mecca and Medina);
(2) A person who seeks that the traditions of the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance, should remain in Islam
(3) And a person who seeks to shed somebody's blood without any right."

The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said, "Time has come back to its original state which it had when ALLAH [S.W.T] Created the Heavens and the Earth, the year is twelve months, of which four are sacred; (and out of these four) three are in succession, namely, Dhul-Qa'da, Dhul-Hijja and Muharram, and (the fourth one) Rajab Mudar which is between Jumad (Ath-Tham) and Sha'ban." The Prophet [S.A.W.S] then asked us, "Which month is this?" We said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S] know (it) better." He kept quiet so long that we thought he might call it by another name. Then he said, "Isn't it Dhul-Hijja?" We said, "Yes." He asked "What town is this?" We said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S] know (it) better.' Then he kept quiet so long that we thought he might call it by another name. He then said, "Isn't it the (forbidden) Town (Mecca)?" We said, "Yes." He asked, "What is the day today?" We said, "ALLAH [S.W.T] and HIS Apostle [S.A.W.S] know (it) better. Then he kept quiet so long that we thought that he might call it by another name. Then he said, "Isn't it the Day of An-Nahr (slaughtering of sacrifices)?" We said, "Yes." Then he said, "Your blood (lives), your properties," (the sub narrator Muhammad (R.A), said: I think he also said): "..and your honor) are as sacred to one another like the sanctity of this Day of yours, in this Town of yours, in this Month of yours. You shall meet your LORD and HE will ask you about your deeds. Beware! Don't go astray after me by striking the necks of one another. Lo! It is incumbent upon those who are present to inform it to those who are absent for perhaps the informed one might comprehend it (understand it) better than some of the present audience." Whenever the sub-narrator Muhammad (R.A) mentioned that statement, he would say, "The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said the truth.") And then the Prophet [S.A.W.S] added, "No doubt! Haven't I conveyed ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Message to you! No doubt! Haven't I conveyed ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Message to you?"

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 35, Book 1: Faith, Number 0142:
It is narrated on the authority of 'Abdullah b. Umar (R.A):
That the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] observed: O womenfolk, you should give charity and ask much forgiveness for I saw you in bulk amongst the dwellers of Hell. A wise lady among them said: Why is it, Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S], that our folk is in bulk in Hell? Upon this the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S] observed: You curse too much and are ungrateful to your spouses. I have seen none lacking in common sense and failing in religion but (at the same time) robbing the wisdom of the wise, besides you. Upon this the woman remarked: What is wrong with our common sense and with religion? He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) observed: Your lack of common sense (can be well judged from the fact) that the evidence of two women is equal to one man, that is a proof of the lack of common sense, and you spend some nights (and days) in which you do not offer prayer and in the month of Ramadan (during the days) you do not observe fast, that is a failing in religion. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Tahir (R.A) with this chain of transmitters.

Sahih Muslim: Chapter 38, Book 4: Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat), Number 0989:

He gave no reply. I again asked and he gave no reply. I asked him for the third time, and he said: I asked ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] about that and he said: Make frequent prostrations before ALLAH [S.W.T], for you will not make one prostration without raising you a degree because of it, and removing a sin from you, because of it. Ma’dan (R.A) said: That then he met Abu al-Darda’ (R.A) and when he asked him, he received a reply similar to that given by Thauban (R.A).

I went to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] in the morning and he heard the voice of two persons who had an argumentation with each other about a verse. ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Apostle [S.A.W.S] came to us (and) the (signs) of anger could be seen on his face. He said: Verily, the (peoples) before you were ruined because of their disputation in the Book.

That some desert Arabs clad in woolen clothes came to ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S]. He saw them in sad plight as they had been hard pressed by need. He (the Holy Prophet [S.A.W.S]) exhorted people to give charity, but they showed some reluctance until (signs) of anger could be seen on his face. Then a person from the Ansar came with a purse containing silver. Then came another person and then other persons followed them in succession until signs of happiness could be seen on his (sacred) face. Thereupon ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: He who introduced some good practice in Islam which was followed after him (by people) he would be assured of reward like one who followed it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who introduced some evil practice in Islam which had been followed subsequently (by others), he would be required to bear the burden like that of one who followed this (evil practice) without their sins being diminished in any respect.

ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying: He who called (people) to righteousness, there would be reward (assured) for him like the rewards of those who adhered to it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect. And he who called (people) to error, he shall have to carry (the burden) of its sin, like those who committed it, without their sins being diminished in any respect.

Abu Huraira (R.A) reported:
ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] as saying: He who alleviates the suffering of a brother out of the sufferings of the world, ALLAH [S.W.T] would alleviate his suffering from the sufferings of the Day of Resurrection, and he who finds relief for one who is hard pressed, ALLAH [S.W.T] would make things easy for him in the Hereafter, and he who conceals (the faults) of a Muslim, ALLAH [S.W.T] would conceal his faults in the world and in the Hereafter. ALLAH [S.W.T] is at the back of a servant so long as the servant is at the back of his brother, and he who treads the path in search of knowledge, ALLAH [S.W.T] would make that path easy, leading to Paradise for him and those persons who assemble in the house among the houses of ALLAH [S.W.T] (Mosques) and recite the Book of ALLAH [S.W.T] and they learn and teach the Qur'an (among themselves) there would descend upon them the tranquility and mercy would cover them and the Angels would surround them and ALLAH [S.W.T] makes a mention of them in the presence of those near HIM, and he who is slow-paced in doing good deeds, his (high) descent does not make him go ahead.

Jami' at-Tirmidhi: Chapter 1, Book 4: The Book on the Day of Friday, Hadith 4:
Abu Huraira (R.A) narrated:
"ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: The best day that the sun has risen upon is Friday. On it Adam (P.B.U.H) was created, on it he entered Paradise, and on it, he was sent down from it. And in it there is an hour in which the Muslim worshipper would not stand in Salat, asking ALLAH [S.W.T] for anything except that HE would give it to him.'" Abu Huraira (R.A) said: "I met Abdullah bin Salam (R.A), and I mentioned this Hadith to him. He said: 'I am more knowledgeable about that hour.' So I said: 'Inform me about it, and do not keep any of it from me.' He said: 'It is after al-Asr until the sun has set.' I said: 'How can it be after Al-Asr when ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] said: 'the Muslim worshipper would not stand in Salat.' And that is a time that prayer is not performed in?" So Abdullah bin Salam (R.A) said: 'Didn't ALLAH [S.W.T]’s Messenger [S.A.W.S] say: "Whoever sat in a gathering awaiting the Salat then he is in Salat"? I said: 'Of course.' He said: 'Then that is it.'"

Sunan Abi Dawud: Chapter 1, Book 26: Knowledge (Kitab Al-Ilm), Hadith 1:
Narrated Kathir Ibn Qays (R.A):
Kathir Ibn Qays (R.A) said: I was sitting with Abud Darda' (R.A) in the Mosque of Damascus. A man came to him and said: Abud Darda (R.A), I have come to you from the town of the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] for a tradition that I have heard you relate from the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S]. I have come for no other purpose. He said: I heard the Messenger of ALLAH [S.W.T] [S.A.W.S] say: If anyone travels on a road in search of knowledge, ALLAH [S.W.T] will cause him to travel on one of the roads of Paradise. The Angels (P.B.U.T) will lower their wings in their great pleasure with one who seeks knowledge, the inhabitants of the heavens and the Earth and the fish in the deep waters will ask forgiveness for the learned man. The superiority of the learned man over the devout is like that of the moon, on the night when it is full, over the rest of the stars. The learned are the heirs of the Prophets (P.B.U.T), and the Prophets (P.B.U.T) leave neither dinar nor dirham, leaving only knowledge, and he who takes it takes an abundant portion.

Sunan Abi Dawud: Chapter 1, Book 26: Knowledge (Kitab Al-Ilm), Hadith 3:
Abu Huraira (R.A) reported:
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] as saying: If anyone pursues a path in search of knowledge, ALLAH [S.W.T] will thereby make easy for him a path to Paradise; and he who is made slow by his actions will not be speeded by his genealogy.

Sunan Abi Dawud: Chapter 10, Book 26: Knowledge (Kitab Al-Ilm), Hadith 19:
Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said: You hear (from me), and others will hear from you; and people will hear from them who heard from you.

Sunan Abi Dawud: Chapter 10, Book 26: Knowledge (Kitab Al-Ilm), Hadith 21:
Sahl b. Sa’d (R.A) reported:
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] as saying: I swear on ALLAH [S.W.T], it will be better for you that ALLAH [S.W.T] should give guidance to one man through your agency than that you should acquire the red ones among the camels.

Sunan Abi Dawud: Chapter 12, Book 26: Knowledge (Kitab Al-Ilm), Hadith 24:
Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):
The Prophet [S.A.W.S] said: If anyone acquires knowledge of things by which ALLAH [S.W.T]'s good pleasure is sought, but acquires it only to get some worldly advantage, he will not experience the arf, i.e. the odour, of Paradise.
